I have a dell laptop thats connected to the internet via a router to a cable modem. so far, i have been putting a mic next to the speaker of a phone*
this hasn't been working out so well, the voice of arnold is very high pitched, there is static, and u can barely hear the pranked person. Is there any other better way of recording that i hopefully dont have to spend any extra $$$ on?
Thanks
*not a speaker phone, but the speaker of a reg. phone

That's exactly what happens to me!!! I have a Dell laptop too, and I have not once been able to record pranks/audio on it, no matter what, or how I go about doing it. You'd have to be god, in order to hear/understand the prank. I've been trying to figure out what the hell's wrong with it for over 6 months. I'm only able to record on a desktop, and my desktop broke 4 months ago. I cannot do ANY pranks, until I fix the problem. I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING.

Well this happens to my friend. When he uses his phone near the speakers it'll make an annoying staticy sound. So i don't know if you could do soundboard calls with it.

On mine, it had nothing to do with the phone being next to the speaker :( . I'm not going out to spend $500 on a new desktop, just to record pranks. I've done everything, from contacting Dell, to contacting my phone company.
I'VE DONE EVERYTHING ON EARTH TO FIGURE OUT WHAT'S GOING ON!!!!!!!!!!
Damn it, I had a telemarketer call me yesterday too...

WOW! That's weird, now it works on my laptop  ! I was just trying it again, and it works! In PERFECT quality too!
1. Go to Sound Recorder
2. Click "File"; "Properties"
3. Select "All Formats"; "Convert Now"
4. Select - Format: PCM
5. Select 48.000 kHz, 16 bit, Stereo, 187 kb/sec.
6. Click "OK"
7. Click the other "OK"
8. MAKE SURE that your microphone is plugged in ALL THE WAY!
9. Start Recording
I can't promise it will work... when I first had my laptop, I followed these steps, and it was still like shit. I hope it works for you :( ...
YAY! I can record pranks now! YAY!
