No offense, but you must not know shit about soccer. Freddy Adu is a joke. Could be on someone's greatest team 10 years from now, but you can't assume things.

:icon_rofl at your obvious lack of knowledge of football...... Freddy Adu is a Ghanaian kid with potential, sure alot of potential but we have seen loads like him come and go especialy in England, a few people on here might remember an English lad call Sonny, he was always on Blue peter (kids show in the UK) showing off his ball skills and he was wanted by every big team in europe, in the end he went to the biggest team at that time in europe Ajax when he was about 12 and he hasnt been heard of since, I read in World Soccer Magazine not long ago that he is older now and has changed his name from Sonny to summat else bcoz he doesnt want people to remember who he is and take the piss out of him.
Anyway back to buisness:
...........................................Ray Clemence
.......Alan Kennedy.........Alan Hansen........Mark Lawrenson......Emlyn Hughes
.....Billy Liddell.............Graeme Souness...Terry McDermott......Steve Heighway
...........................Kenny Dalglish
................................................Ro bbie Fowler (AKA God)
Subs:
Bruce Grobbelaar
Phil Neal
Phil Thompson
John Barnes
Steve McManaman
Ray Kennedy
Jan Molby
Ian Rush
Kevin Keegan
This team would own!!! For those of you who either are American or not in the know my team is a Liverpool F.C Allstar team and believe me a team made up of Liverpool's (who have had some of the best players every to grace English and european football in their sides) best players ever is the sort of thing dreams are made of.... The ones where you wake up and your bed sheets are damp and crusty lol.

He is actualy supposed to be alright, I have seen a few vids where he takes on a whole team before scoring, I know what you are saying though, the quality of footy in the U S is pretty shoddy but they are still relativley new to the game. If I was playing in America I bet I could do stuff like take on a whole team before scoring, Adu will only be able to step up a gear if he plays real football in europe, would he be able to take on a whole team before scoring in England, Spain or Italy???....... Absolutley not!
You didnt say if my team met your standards Blue_Alert, I hope it does bcoz if it doesnt I think you should take an interest in another sport..... Hurling lol.

I see few brazilian players listed. The best country (in terms of soccer) in the world should have more players.
Pelé is guaranteed (sp?).
Take a look at some players from 1970 and u ppl will see what Im talking about.
Today we have so many great players, like ronaldo, ronaldinho gaucho, adriano, luis fabiano, deco (he is brazilian), dida, cafu, roberto carlos, romario (old but playing in brazil), rivaldo (not that great anymore) , kaka, just to name a few.
From that small list, I believe romario could be included if we move maradona to the mid field.
No offense, but soccer on USA? :insane:

Couldnt agree more with you about the 1970 Brazil world cup winning side (Carlos Alberto, Jairzinho, Tostao, Rivelino and Pele to name a few) they were probably the best football team ever (club or national) but I honestly dont know how you can think that half the Brazilian national side of now should be in an "ALL TIME" dream team. The only players in the Brazil side at the minute that would have any chance of being in an all time dream team would be Cafu and Ronaldinho.

ok genius, name me another right sided midfielder who can put a pass on a forwards foot from anywhere on the pitch?
I'm thinking about Gerald Vanenburg, and Johan Cruijff (both Dutch, yes so am I). You probably don't know Vanenburg, but he was one of the most important players in the 1988 Dutch squad that won the EC, though he left PSV for some German club and kinda got lost. Still very good. I see you've got Cruijff as a central midfielder, but he was a left-forward, but in a 4-3-3 tactic, so that basically equals a left midfielder in a 4-4-2 and he was right footed. That would leave you a hole in the central midfield for Pele (he was a midfielder, I seem to remember) and then you could add an extra striker (maybe van Basten, to stay in the Dutch scene?)
Now that I've been behaving cocky, I guess I should explain why I haven't posted my players: I know to few players from before the 80's to make a good decision, so I think I shouldn't make a decision at all.
On the other hand, a couple of weaks ago I have been making my favorite team of players still playing, so I'll post that one here:

Dl: Kaladze

:eek: You insolent swine, Robbie Fowler is a legend, hes one of the best finishers to have ever graced the Premiership, he was very unlucky with injuries that when he recovered from not only was he never the same but there was a 17 year old by the name of Michael Owen who had broken into the team and was the new golden boy.
The reason he never won anything is bcoz he was playing in a side with no discepline (The Spiceboys), if we had a manager like Ferguson, Wenger or even Moyes during the 90s we would have won the Premiership with the team we had (Fowler, Collymore, McManaman, Redknapp, Ruddock, Wright, Scales, McAteer and James)
As for the England thing he was like McManaman, a different class for Liverpool but wasnt able to perform as well for the National side which I suppose is the opposite of Beckham whos club form is dodgey but (until recently) is imense for England.

No, seriously. There should be something like a rule against Americans posting in topics they don't understand (anything that has to do with Soccer, International affairs and/or anything concerning common sense).
Anyway, anybody who understands sports and language understands American Football is only named Football because they couldn't come up with an original name like Rugby-players did. Cause AF doesn't have much to do with feet. So I thinks it's only right to call soccer Football.

Alright, calm down, and back the fuck up, both of you.
Yes, I do understand soccer, but it pains me deeply to see it being called football, a game I know and love. This is a board in the US, and our language should be used. Football = "American", or "The Better" Football. Soccer = "Non-American" Futbol

Point taken DP, now leave their thread and go elsewhere. There are plenty of American Football threads to post in.
And just because the board is located in America does not mean anyone cannot post about other sports in different countries.

I never said Fowler is one of the all time greats.... He cant be compared the likes of Rush, Hunt, Pele, Di Stefano or Cruyff but he is a Liverpool legend for three reasons:
*Those two scorchers he scored against Man U at Old Toilet (he liked scoring against Manure)
*The quickest ever hatrick in football (4 minutes) against Arsenal
*And the fact that he is without doubt the best finisher the Premiership has ever seen, sure Henry is more skillful and can do amazing things with a ball and yes Shearer is the Best goal scorer the Premiership has ever seen and yes Van Horseface is the best goal-hanging cheat the Premiership has ever seen but for the 8 years he was in the first team at Liverpool he was amazing, he scored 171 goals in 330 games for Liverpool and won 6 trophies in that time.
He scored 18 goals in his first season with Liverpool he won young player of the year two years in a row (1995 and '96) and he scored over 30 goals in the 1994/95 season.

Funny thing is, that Henry is even worse in scoring from offside-positions, because he is quite often actually offside. van Nistelrooij is just using this technique where he is offside (and therefore really hard to defend) just up to the moment when the ball is played. And ofcourse there's the new rule where players can be offside as long as they're not actually taking part in the game.

Along with Pires he is the biggest diving (therefore cheating) twat, I found it amazing that Roy keane was asking for someone to make wrist bands for anti diving after they played Arsenal bcoz one of his own players is a diving shit too.
Heres one of the funniest pictures I have ever seen, its Van Horsemouth doing what he does best, conning the ref:

Im sure you will all agree with me when I say he takes diving to a whole new level, he looks like one of the bad guys on "The A-Team" when a grenade has blown up behind them.
I find it funny people call Van a cheat but never give an example of when this "cheating" has taken place.
And so what he's never scored from outside the box .... I like to score in the (female) box too. :D

Yes, I do understand soccer, but it pains me deeply to see it being called football, and we dont like it being called soccer
This is a board in the US, and our language should be used.
you dont have a language of your own you speak ENGLISH
football has been around from times before america was formed it goes all the way back to the 1300's posibly earlyer if the rumours about it originating in china are true
Football = "American", or "The Better" Football. Soccer = "Non-American" Futbol
by the way futbol is not football it is a seperate game that youngsters play in brazil using very small balls and i think it is 5-a side
the idea is to build up ball control as it is harder to play with a small ball than a large ball

Im brazilian and I believe u are talking about "futsal".
Its something like "indoor football", but it's not always indoor.
It has nothing to do with youngsters and the idea is the same from regular football, except by the fact that some rules are different. Only 5 players per team.
I find it more fun then playing 11 x 11 in a big field, because in "futsal" everybody must attack and defend. Very fast pace.
ps: The portuguese word for football is "futebol"

04-05-2005, 11:04 AM
Well Id have Terry over Ferdinand, Im not saying hes shit, hes a quality defender, but how you can even argue that he should be in an all time best 11 blows my mind.
By the way along with Gerrard, Carragher has been Liverpool's best player for the last 2 years, he never puts a foot wrong but doesnt get the recognition he deserves, if he was playing for Manure instead of Liverpool you would probably be arguing that Carragher is one of the best CBs of all time.
Part of the reason Ferdinand is over rated is bcoz he plays for Manure, as soon as you sign for those scum you are suddenly considered one of the best in the world its ridiculous.

What like Forlan
MrDeliquent85
04-05-2005, 11:21 AM
A bit harsh.
To be honest, when we first signed Ferdiand .. I was very sceptic but it wasnt until he was banned that I relised his real role in the team and any team. I like to call him the cucumber, although he does lack something special ... he is chill as fuck. This calm attitude he has allows him to make great tackles others wouldnt.
All this said, 'all time best' ? ...... nah , not yet anyways.
Robbo was a great player but not quite sure if he would be up there. Same with Stam. Maybe in the all time Man Utd team but not sure about the all time world team.
Rooney = No chance.
Carragher = very underrated. Even as it hurts to say, I think he should be playing rightback instead of Neville. I doubt he'll make centre half but Im all for him taking over from Neville at right. :thud: (ouch that hurt)
Edit: Forlan is a great player, good watch one of his games now. He was shit at utd.
James Bond 007
04-05-2005, 11:42 AM
Thanx for that Mr D, I know how much that must have hurt, though to be honest I think this is the dilema with carragher; he is a great CB but bcoz England is blessed with so many truely world class CBs I feel Carragher (whilst playing for Liverpool anyway) will always be over looked.
At full back I dont feel Carragher is as effective, When Liverpool were playing with Babbel at RB, Hyypia and Henchoz at CB and Carragher at LB he did seem to make alot more mistakes than he does now, his best position is definatley CB but this is what is so great about Jamie, he is so versatile.
I dont think there is another defender in Europe maybe even the world that can adapt so well no matter where you play him in the back 4 (maybe Maldini).
I think Neville has built up such a good understanding with beckham through all the years playing for United and England that it would possibly upset the equalibrium (yey me with my big words :) ) if you changed that.
PS Isnt Sally gunnel er sorry Forlan the top scorer in Spain this season?

No offense, but you must not know shit about soccer. Freddy Adu is a joke. Could be on someone's greatest team 10 years from now, but you can't assume things.
if you where to know that the uefa does not allow any player from outside europe to sign before they ar 18!!!!!!
that`s why adu is still playing in the US
Henkie
05-11-2005, 09:58 AM
But that's not up to the UEFA. Only thing that could stop stuff like that is national laws, the only thing the UEFA could do is stop him from playing in the CL. I think the main reason why he's still playing in the US is because experience has thought that you cannot be sure of how a player is going to develop until he's about 17 and even then it's unsure. So teams are waiting for him to grow up, because nobody wants to spend millions on a 15-year old who ends up being a mediocre player.

This from the man that thinks Robbie Fowler (coke sniffing chav) is one of the greatest strikers ever!! If you think Fowler is that great than I don't think your opinion on strikers is worth a great deal. Ruud is a class player better than any striker who has worn a liverpool shirt for 10 years or more.

Firstly I never said hes one of the greatest ever strikers, I just said Fowler is the best finisher the Premiership has ever seen, before he got injured he was incredible, since his injury he has never been half the player he was thats why we got rid.... He isnt worth cleaning Rudd's boots now but in 1996 he was awesome and IMO better than Rudd bcoz he had more to his game than just standing in an off side position and then just tapping the ball in from 2 yards. Put me in the United side and tell me to just goal hang and I'll score 20 a season with the quality of the passes Beckham used to deliver, he doesnt look half as good without Becks dropping a 50 yard pass onto his head from 2 yards out.

Nope. I disagree. Fowler at his best was clinical and prolific. I would rate him in the top 3 best strikers the Premiership has seen (probably with Shearer and Andy Cole). In a one on one with the the goalkeeper, there is no-one I would want with the ball more than Robbie Fowler. He was never given his best chance with England really.
I agree with you 007 (although I do think you slightly underrate Ruud's finishing abilities. Can't exactly argue with the no goals outside the penalty box though). :(

That's true, Americans are allways talking about American Football being so manly, but they'll only play it if they get enough protection to be seriously sure they won't get hurt. Rugby, on the other hand has hardly any protection an is really though.
Anyway, why would Football (the more popular one) be any less a sport than Baseball ore American Football (which really has hardly anything to do with feet)?

As for my team...
i have only been watching from the 90s onwards so i only know hearsay about those old geezers (therefore i wont put them in my team). My best 11 is...
GK=Canizares
RB=Cafu
LB=pearce (to hold his position and let giggs foreward)
CB=Maldini
CB=Nesta/cannavaro(cant decide)
LM=Giggity giggity giggity giggs
RM=Beckham(with Cafu making overlaps=lethal!)
DMF=Keano(Captain)
AMF=Zidane
F=Batistuta
F=Shearer
Subs
Schmikes
Carragher
Gerrard
Gazza
Ronaldo (thanks 007)
Thought about this team as a squad rather than a team of individual greats. The overlaping fullbacks with slow wingers who can cross the ball like bugary. Two tall strikers who are good in the air. Zidane to work his magic in the middle and distribute possession. and of course the dominant keano to hold the middle of the pitch and win possesion. still not sure about pearce though, i cant think of a better one (not carlos or cole).
i'd love to see how this team would fair in a match against any of the others selected on this thread.

That is a good team, a very good team of recent players.
Also Id leave Stuart "Psycho" Pearce in that team, he was great.
Do you realise you have Shearer in your starting 11 and also on the bench???
As much as Id have liked a whole team of Shearers I think there is something moraly wrong with cloning.
Also good choice having Carradona and Stevie G in your team.

hmm, if you have been watching football for the last 10 years or so you must have seen ronaldo play, i'd put him in instead of batistuta. Schmikes in goal waaaaaaay ahead of canizares. Nesta at right back and Canavaro/Maldini middle. I'd also put Effenberg in instead of Keane, I support Man U, but Effenberg is one of the greatest ever IMO. Otherwise great team, perhaps we could have a decades XI, with the greatest sqads from 60's 70's 80's 90's and today, wonder which decade would produce the best team?

yeah, i thought about effen, but i thought the rest of my players were a bit soft. so i wanted a hard bastard to break some bones. he is also the most influencial captain i have ever seen so he would bring the rest of the team up a level.
Ronaldo is a wanderful player, but he isnt as strong as Bati in the air. My teams strategy is based on the arial passes so i wanted a forward with better heading abillity.
