The easiest way to reset your bios settings is to pull out the battery from your motherboard. First unplug your computer from the power source. Just open up your computer and you'll see the battery. Unlatch it and pull it out but be careful with the latch. You screw up the latch you may be paying another 150.00...If your battery is soldered to the motherboard (which in most cases it is not now that people screw w/ computer nowadays) there is one alternative way, although you should get along fine that way. As for not reading the cdrw drive, you possibly need a driver for it? As for not reading the cdrw, i have no idea. That is a technical issue that you would have to call hp for. I have had issues with f'n sony's where they wont convert to a NTFS from a FAT32 hard drive. HP may need a drive that is "HP compatible." Call them for the best advice on that.
