Ringo Starr? He is not even close to being the best drummer. He was on one of the best bands ever but he was not that talented.
The best drummer would have to be Mitch Mitchell (http://www.drummerworld.com/drummers/Mitch_Mitchell.html)

Have you guys even heard Marcos Minneman or Tom Laing?!
Minneman can actually loop a simpsons quote (say Cletus the Slack Jawed Yokel talking), figure out the time signature in which he is talking, then make up a drum beat that goes along with the loop

first of all, you double posted, second of all, i dont want any crap concerning modern bands. they suck. period. you already have negative reps, so dont make it worse for yourself.
are u nuts.
yes
u can rip me all u want but the guy from blink 182 is amazing he has a record in guness he can do like 10 beats a second.
Mitch was better than that ass clown. Being in the gunniness doesn't mean shit. Britney spears is in it with the most hit singles, but is she the best?

im sure that guiness book of world records doesn't dabble into the sub-culture of punk very much, because if they did they would find all kinds of drummers that would break his record (including myself- i played in a hardcore punk band for 3 years)...and besides, if you ask me, playing really fast is way easier than playing slow and steady. i'm sure i can get some punk drummers to agree with me on that....
best guitarist - jimi hendrix
best bass - flea
best drummer -john bonham or if you mean traditional drumming - gene krupa
best keyboards---hmm don't know many keyboard---i suppose the keyboard player for the blue meanies kicks major ass

This thread is strange because people are going in way different directions. What are we talking about, best? Chops? Part Writing? Best all around?
here's from a full time musician's point of view:
Going by chops, or technical skill
bass: Stu Hamm/Vic Wooten/Billy Sheehan/Michael Manring
guitar: Yngwie Malmsteen/Rusty Cooley/Michael Angelo Batio
drums: Neil Peart/Terry Bozzio/Buddy Rich
keyboard: Jordan Rudess/Kevin Moore/Jens Johansen
But hold up... that's not what's important. These are all great players, and playing a million notes a second in 10 different styles is nice, but here's how I see it all around best.. ie, they have great chops, the music parts they write are amazing, they are versatile - can play many styles of music, they are able to support and solo as well, they know how to be team players, just the all around most kickass musicians, any way you look at it:
bass: Flea/Chris Squire/Tony Levin
guitar: Steve Vai/Joe Satriani/Allan Holdsworth
drums: Vinnie Colaiuta/Dave Weckl/Steve Gadd
keyboard: Rick Wakeman/Keith Emerson/Jon Lord

why do some people think Roger Waters is a great bassist?
A great singer, an amazing lyricist, but he's an average bassist at best.

Ahh, yes, nice to see someone else appreciates Alderete... I call him Juan, but I'm pretty sure he goes by both names. Anyways, it was nice to see him get some recognition by being on the cover of this month's edition of Bass Player mag :D
Nice slashes, too

I know...he looked strangely hot! :shuffle:
Anyway, he goes buy Juan in Mars Volta and John in Racer X. In fact he changes his name for most bands he's in for some reason.
Nice slashes, too

Get Out! STFU! man thats sweet, the acustic bass he used belongs to Wooten now and Victor brought it to his summer camp which my friend(who is also an exceptional bass player condsidering he was only 16 and got into the camp for 18and up.) was at and my friend got to play it.

that's pretty awesome. I didn't know wooten and clarke new each other. I considered going to Wooten's camp, but Tennessee is quite a ways from here. :(
Anyways, this one doesn't have any requirements by age, I dont think (though it says teen-adult, so I guess you have to be 13).. it's just a skill prerequisite for the course, at least for the one with Stanley.. they have beginner camps too though, so nobody's left out of the program as a whole, maybe they get to meet him too :D
http://www.guitarworkshoporders.com/classes/summits/basssummit/
anyways, there it is, I'm taking the funk/fusion course
So yea.. it was kinda misleading when I said that he would be teaching me... it will be in a small group, and he's a guest instructor.. but still!
And, I just noticed you said your friend played a bass that both Stan and Vic played.. that's fucking amazing! :thud:
