Who did good with the classics?

My Votes :

Knockin' On Heaven's Door - Guns N Roses

All Along The Watchtower - most every band who's sung it has done good

Have A Cigar - Foo Fighters

I am probably going to reget asking this, but what exactly is the definition of a cover song? I think I know, but I am not sure.

Although most will likely disagree, Red Hot Chili Peppers have done a lot of Hendrix covers that I like. Most Hendrix I'm not a huge fan of, but when RHCP takes it and funks the hell out of it, it becomes quite kick ass.

Every Rose Has It's Thorns - The Unseen
Beat It - The Unseen
Folsom Prison Blues - Reverend Horton Heat

For some reason I can't think of any covers right now. Maybe some will come to me later.

I saw the Unseen on thursday. When they played Every Rose... everyone was singing along and waving lighters and shit, and when the hard part started, the pits went nuts. Stayed that way through all of Beat It too. Everyone screaming along and shit. Twas awesome.

I like artists who add a bit of their own sound and style to a cover rather then just perform it the same way as the orriginal artist. OF course this means that they will get accused by the fans of the orriginal of "killing/fucking up the song". For example Nirvana's man who sold the world i feel is just too similar to the orriginal, and is really just a pointless tribute. If ya wanna listen to man who sold the world....just listen to bowies', dont bother with nirvana's. Ne1 agreein with me on this view on covers (im expectin neg. reps from nirvana fans already) :help:

Anyway, a few gud covers id say r
Joe cocker - Try with a little help from my friends
Motorhead - Louie Louie
Sex Pistols - No Fun
Sepultura - Orgasmatron
Megadeth - Paranoid
Slayer - In a Gada Di Vita

And finially the undisputed king of the cover.......
:bang: Rolf Harris - Stairway to heaven :bang:

Gin & Juice by The Gourdes (or however you spell it, most filesharing programs have it as by Phish or bands like that for some reason)

I could say some others but this is the only I haven't seen mentioned.. despite it's stupidity you can't deny that this song is a great improvement over the rap version and is very catchy in a non-pop way..

A Perfect Circle - Imagine

You should be shot. That song is perhaps the worst song I have ever heard. And it does shame to the original and John Lennon.

No.. it really isn't.

Zeppelin's is a very slow blues song that I'm going to assume is a cover of some other blues artist, while AC/DC's song is strait up fast paced rock, they have nothing in common other than the line "you shook me all night long".

Don't feel bad about it though, I've heard at least two other people say that it was a Zeppelin cover, so you arn't alone.
