Usher and Mariah Carey? You serious? Well, you said legacy so I guess that really doesn't mean passing something positive along. Even a legacy of tripe is still a legacy.

Everyone else on that list has already left a legacy.

Agreed. I think he meant a lasting memory though. There were songs in my grandparents age that left a legacy in my parents age that I've never heard about. I think, maybe, The Beatles' legend will last for a good while longer than some others.

Well i said Usher and Mariah because they're both in the middle of the careers. So its possible that they will leave something GOOD behind. Mariahs' stuff is crap now but her older stuff is very good.

I think Dave Matthews will have an amazing legacy. I can see kids 25 and 30 years from now still jamming to Dave. Hope Dave himself is still jammin!

I agree. Another band I think should be on there is The Rolling Stones. I'm not a fan of their music, but 40 years in the music industry is quite an accomplishment. And also Pink Floyd.

^ Most of who was mentioned in the first post, and from the past 10 years...

- 50 Cent
- Snoop Dog
- Britney Spears
- Slipknot

Even if you don't like them, they each define their generation and style of music.

I would love to think that the good bands from the 90's could leave a legacy. Nirvana, Alice N Chains, Soundgarden etc.
As for 50 cent, Maria carey, come on I hope not. And Micheal Jackson might, but for all the worng reasons.

Another that would be good, judging by your qoute, would be Rage. Oh and I don't think that music is dead, just most people don't know what it sounds like anymore.

THE ROLLING STONES! oh definately!

Wait.. 50 cent?! Snoop??? definately dont think so.. the only rapper worthy of a legacy is 2pac.. and 2nd place would probably be Run DMC.

I think Mariah Carey's music will live on forever (her OLD music). Like when she was white. hahahaha :-D

^^^ dam u, i was gonna say that, i saw none of those bands on the first page, so i was like, YES can post some good, memorbale bands.

- Elton John -NO Really? i thought he made a mark, with all his theatrics. Also a band that left a legacy KISS, even if u dont like them, come on, their songs are still in movies. One last important one is CHER, i hate her music, but she has been in the music business for what, 30-40 years now?? And she still tours? thats gotta be worth something.

Hey, I said I'm sure Slipknot and Britney Spears WILL leave a legacy, I never said they were going to leave a GOOD legacy, I know a lot of people hate them, but wehter you like it or not they are the big names in their genre. Chill yo! :p

Micheal Jackson might.

I think he already has. As Dave Chapelle put it, "He made Thriller"

Well, when it comes down to modern music, I think some bands that will live a legacy are...

Radiohead, Elliott Smith, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, The Strokes and BECK!!! Am I right or... your wrong!

As far as what I'd like to see stick around... Super Furry Animals, Supergrass, Death Cab for Cutie*, Blackalicious (all of Quantum really), Broken Social Scene, The Zutons, Arcade Fire* (too soon to tell), Jack Johnson* (Depending if you fucks will start to mellow out) that goes for Ben Harper* and G love as well, Cake, MODEST MOUSE*, The Shins*

* = good possibility of sticking around.

Nirvana- Have only made a legacy because he topped himself.
TuPac- Is dead, that is why he is partly famous.

Yes but way to suggest artists from only 1 genre of music. Most of those bands, although absolutely great in context, do not hold a candle to others in other genre's of music.

I had this chat w/ this girl and she kept suggesting that Green Day would be as great as the Beatles and im just like :banghead:

But once again, everybody will be listening to these bands in years to come, people will still buy Back In Black, people will still buy DSOTM, Hotel California will always be one of the greatest songs ever.

The only rappers to ever have a legacy would be 90's westcoast rappers.

Most of the people on your list already did make a mark. As for Usher and Mariah Carey, you make me laugh. If anyone would leave a mark today, it would be Alicia Keyes or Eminem. Alicia keyes because she has morales but still suceeds and Eminem because he is incredibly liked. I don't but many people do.

guys this isnt a "Post your favortie bands" thread, mmkay, this is a post who you think will leave a lasting mark...

as far as bands who are still making music:

1. Metallica

2. Dave Matthews most likely

3.maybe Tool

4. it think ppl are right about Britney Spears...unfortunately

5. technically the Rolling Stones are still coming out with music, but we already know how much of a legacy they've made

6. Willie Nelson (does he still play shows?)

i really cant think of any more, its hard not to just name the bands i like. i think that the main part of creating a legacy is having powerful music with real true meaning to it, not just talking about some stupid girl that broke up with you. but then theres always that musician *coughgrrgbritneycough* that becomes a legend merely because of the phenomena factor that went along with their career.

- Led Zeppelin already has
- Michael Jackson has
- Whitney Houston no
- Usher hell no
- Mariah Carey HELL NO

From the list, I think quite a few of them have a lasting legacy or will continue to crate one for themselves, such as: Elton John, Frank Sinatra, U2, Elvis, Led Zeppelin & The Rolling Stones.

The Beatles are in a whole other category. Not that they are particularly better than any of the others (in my opinion), but they were in the right place at the right time... not to mention being blessed with two members who are arguably among the best of the 20th century's songwriters in contemporary music.

I'd wager that in 200 years from now the average person will at least know of the Beatles, much like the average person today has at least heard of Beethoven or Mozart.

why are you all talking about bands that have already left one?

Current bands that will leave a legacy (not including current bands that already have one, ie. Metallica, Aerosmith, etc.)..

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Definitely
Dream Theater - Definitely
Velvet Revolver - Probably
Audioslave - Possibly
System of a Down - Possibly
Chevelle/Mudvayne - Deserve to, a couple of the new hard rock bands that really stand out from the crowd with original music, but they probably won't.

Metallica will most likely leave a legacy. Britney Spears, while I don't like to say it, will probably be engraved into pop music for many, many years, as will Michael Jackson. You have to admit, the man was a fantastic musician. Queen, AC/DC, and The Eagles will be remembered as well.

Metallica will DEFINATELY leave a legacy. They made thrash big. The essentially introduced metal to the world. I mean sure, you have maiden and priest and shit, and those bands are gods amungst men, but Metallica has left an imprint on the world both positive and negative.

Everyone knows metallica, whether they like them or hate them. And I bet the majority of the people can name a metallica album (most controversal being Load of course) Metallica also shut down Napster originally. That's pretty big...

So yes, hands down Metallica has left their legacy, which will never die.

Agreed no one else will leave a legacy in Rap.

Because know everyone knows what the ghetto is all about and they have the power to change it but they never will so theyre gonna keep putting out albums about the same old shit..... Violence,Money,Cars,Bitches.

Unless true hip hop gets rolling. Songs with meaningful lyrics.

I hope rappers like Talib Kweli, Mos Def, The Roots, k-OS, Immortal Technique, and others like them will leave legacies that will inspire aspiring rappers of the future. The bling-and-ho era must end!

No 'underground' rapper will leave a legacy. They are GREAT rappers but not THAT many people know of them. But if you mention someone like Eminem, people will know him. Chances are that Eminem will leave a legacy. He is the greatest white rapper to ever rap (Don't bring up that Bubba Sparxxx, Alchemist, and Haystack are better than him, shit.).

I think NAS will leave a legacy behind as one of the greatest rappers and one of the REALEST rappers. Tupac already has a legacy, Eminem will leave a legacy, and Outkast will leave a legacy for putting the SOuth on the map and having mainstream success and respect from almost all hip hop heads.

The other rapper that will leave a legacy: Vanilla Ice.

Legacy for all the wrong reasons, but a legacy none the less.

A legacy of awefullness? I guess the whole boy band thing we all suffered thru a few years ago will leave a painful memory. I can see myself years from now saying "I remember that stupid shit..."
