Ok. I'm sick of all the arguments about whether or not old music is better than modern music ruining some good topics in this section so I decided to make this thread. Here you can share your opinion on which you like better. I'm personally undecided. I enjoy older bands such as led zeppelin, pink floyd, metallica, iron maiden, etc., and also bands that are sort of in between as far as time goes such as Dream Theater and Tool. However, I also enjoy some modern bands such as The Mars Volta, Thrice, and Cursive. I believe that if you write music it's good to have a diverse taste in music. They more diverse your tastes are, the more unique you'll sound. Now hopefully we can just share our opinions here and stop ruining perfectly good threads.
Oh, and also, keep the arguing to a minimum. Just because someone doesnt share the same opinion with you doesnt mean you have to be an asshole about it.

I think the 2 are much too different to compare. Its like comparing an old car to a new car.
The new car is obviously superior because of the technology but the old car has all the sentimental value. New music has superior equipment and editing rooms but is hasnt the ability to bring back nostalgic feelings like old music does.

^^^^ good call,
Yea i like the old stuff, and the new stuff too. In my case, i like/have more of the old music, than new music. It is kinda annoying though, all those arguments ppl have comparing led zep, pink floyd, beatles, to bands now a days. All i gotta say to that is Different Strokes for Different Folks. hehehe, thats a pun. and new bands no matter what one says must get some "inspiration/ ideas" from old music

Whenever someone tries to make something official, it usually never works, but nonetheless, this is an OK thread. I like your solution on how to make the music section better.

These topics just end up with people sucking off Dream Theater and Pink Floyd. Kinda makes me want to go back to bashing Slipknot fans. At least that was fun.

newer bands really lack talent, but sometimes i dont mind listening to a 3 min radio song with a catchy tune just to kill time. IMO the most talented band to come out in a long time is Opeth, but thats just what i think.

Older music is just better, to say the least.
Actually any music is good, music comes in all shape and sizes. there are over a billion people on earth who have there own unique taste of music, the world doesnt revolve around one person, people are not gonna agree on your side. Just because we live in our own generation and say it sucks, it dosent mean it sucks to everyone else. Actually music from the 60, and 70 are the only two decades of diverse music, people were actually intrested in hearing this stuff and wanted more, which is why Radio and record companies were open to alot of music. Now in our age of modern music, its not about that anymore, music now has been labled a fashion...music should not be fashion, but this is a whole other topic at hand.

If you have older brothers or sisters your probably into to older music. I have an older brother who is 15 years my senior so I've heard alot of older stuff. He even has stuff on vinyl.
With peer to peer and broadband theirs really no excuse for not sampling old school tunes.

actually, i have an older brother and our musical tastes are different.
I like: Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Frank Zappa, Phish, Allman Brothers, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, etc. the only new bands i like are Black Label Society and Velvet Revolver.
He likes: Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson, John Butler, Jamie Cullum, Donovan Frankenreiter, Gov't Mule etc...jam bands is his main taste but he'll listen to pretty much anything. The only one he likes from my list would be Phish (everyone likes them though). He listens to a lot of newer stuff.
He claims to have the more refined musical taste but I have one thing over him: the hotter wife.
Another one of these threads? Ive said this many times: Both new and old are good, there are very talented musicians today and in the past.
