This has been the only time this season where we've struggled. We need a 3 pt shooter and J-Mac to start hitting down shots like he did all of last year.

Anyone who thought the Cavs would keep up the pace they set at the start of the season was delusional, the bench isn't deep enough for them to make it the whole season, they will continue to fade. I say they end up a 6 or 7 seed.

I disagree. Our bench was deep enough to get us at least the 4 seed (Hey, its still not out of reach), all of us just got hurt/slumped at the wrong time. Anderson Varejao, our team's energy source has missed the last 6 weeks with a sprained ankle and returned just yesterday. Other key players that have gotten injured sometime this season are:
Jeff McInnis
Ira Newble
Luke Jackson
Scott Williams
Dejuan Wagner
and of course, LeBron James
That's almost half of the team. Its not depth thats the concern, its health.
Drew Gooden also hit a MAJOR slump right after the all-star break. Since the break, he's averaged 11.25 ppg, and even worse, 7.75 rpg. Those numbers include his monster game last night.
But last night, we actually won. And it's because we had some depth in the front court for the first time in 6 weeks, and because Gooden finally broke out of his slump. If we can play like that for the rest of the season, I see us getting the 4 seed with no problem.
Mike From The D
03-09-2005, 05:41 PM
geez i'm having flashbacks of caveman/laker and all injury woes last year. they are part of the game, they should not be used as excuses. everyone gets hurt, no one makes it the whole season un-injured. Baseball players have slumps, NBA players play like shit for an extended period of time.......I'll bump this thread in a few months when the cavs are the sixth seed. :D............and the three players on the injured list, they are non-factors playing or injured. just my opinion. the cavs have 4 solid players thats it.
Pfef63
03-09-2005, 05:58 PM
They may seem like "non factors" but they gave us depth in the front court. When they were all hurt, we had to rely on Tractor Traylor and Desagna Diop to carry the load for us.
Mike From The D
03-09-2005, 06:01 PM
between the three they average 2.8 pts per game, 0.8 rebounds. where I come from thats a non factor, not depth. just because they have heart beats doesn't make them players.....But anyway all in good fun, let the chips fall where they may.
Pfef63
03-09-2005, 06:04 PM
You ahve to remember though, Luke Jackson didn't play much to start the season, and then he got hurt right when he started earning some time.
And Scott Williams is still a hell of a lot more productive than Diop.
Mike From The D
03-09-2005, 06:08 PM
He didn't play because he was a non-factor, its not like they forgot about him.......I give up.
Pfef63
03-09-2005, 06:10 PM
He didn't play early on because he was a rookie. Silas limits rookies, with the lone exception of LeBron James.
He did the same thing with Jason Kapono last year, who is a similar player to Luke Jackson.
Mike From The D
03-09-2005, 06:12 PM
But if he could have played and been a factor, rookie or not he would have played? Yes?.......ok I give up for real this time. :)

You called it man. Where is Pfef anyway? He was a good contributer to this section.
The Cavs were over achieving in the first half of the season and were shocking teams who didn't expect such good play. I think they have come down to Earth and the other teams in the east have picked it up a notch for playoff positioning. The Nets are pushing for a spot very hard and the Sixers and Cavs should be worried. The Nets are 1 game behind the Sixers and 2 games behind the Cavs. The ideal slot for the Nets would be the 7th slot against the Pistons, they are small team against the Heat and the Pistons. If I'm the Heat and Pistons, I don't want to play the Cavs, because they have a big man in Ilgauskas and Lebron.

I don't think Lebron James is going to leave anytime soon. They need to pick up some key components over the summer to make an outstanding team. As far as the playoffs go it's really hard to tell if they are going to make it.

I'm still here. Just not much of a poster anymore.
Boy was I wrong about the Cavs. Hell we don't need any playoffs this year, we should just try and get lucky in the lottery. I don't see a point in getting Redd. He's too expensive, and we have too many holes to fill to piss it all away on one guy. I'm hoping Joe Johnson(Phoenix) will be available in the offseason. He should come cheaper, and won't worry about being a number 2 man. I'd also like to see Snow and Gooden traded away. Varejao is ready to start, and there are a few hundred guys in the league I'd take over Snow.
I'd also like to see LeBron go back to the point next year. It won't happen because he's 6'8'', but it should. He's the best passer we have, and he needs a lot more opprotunities to find open men to score. If we move LeBron to the 1 spot, then we can take a shooter we get in the offseason and put him in either the 2/3, with either Newble or Pavlovic filling the other spot.

They aren't rumours....Some douche bag in NY wrote a column on it because they want LeBron to come to NY more than they would want some pussy. LeBron has two years left hear at least, and Dan Gilbert didn't buy the team to have LeBron go one year after he bought it.

Maybe that's because J-Mac has began wearing his jersey on backwards during practices. Meaning, the only thing he's concerned about at this point is himself.
By the way: my Pacers win again tonight...into the 5th seed. Can anyone say Rick Carlisle for coach of the year?
CavsFan23
04-09-2005, 11:08 AM
Carlisle has done a great job this season well with nothing really. He hasn't had JO Artest and S-Jax for a big chunk of the year. As for us Gilbert screwed us over thanks to his perfect timing of firing Silas and announcing Paxson would be gone(end sarcasm). Thanks to his great moves and our lack of focus we are falling faster every week. But hey I'm a Cleveland fan I'm tough skinned it wouldn't be my first or last major dissappointment...and i'm only 15 :banghead:

Not to the point where they start giggling on the bench while being hammered by 20 points; or disrupting team chemistry at a crucial time by wearing your practice jersey backwards.

Sure, from a statistical standpoint McInnis would seem to be doing a better job. However, by doing that we overlook the intangiables. Snow is not the one destroying team chemistry during a crucial playoff push.
When teams are closing in on the post-season, they need to be focussed on one thing only: winning a championship. If all your players are not striving to achieve the same thing, you're going to fail as a team. That one person can ruin it for everyone.
Sure, in their last 5 games McInnis might be averaging a couple more PPG than Snow...but are those couple extra points worth the distractions and poor team chemistry?
Just my opinion, but when I am going into the post-season, I want a team full of winners dedicated to playing hard.
It kind of reminds me of what happened with Ron Artest last season. Barring key injuries to Jermaine O'Neal and Jamaal Tinsley of course, the team was performing at an exceptional level...until Game 6. Ronnie finally lost it, and smoked Rip Hamilton in the face in the closing minutes, to be followed with a couple ill-advised three pointers. He lost focus...and in those crucial games you need people who you can rely upon.
Even look at this year...before the infamous brawl on 11/19. Ronnie asked to take time off to work on his 'record-label'. What did it do? It disrupted team chemistry. Fortunately, Carlisle took a tough-stance on the issue and suspended Ron a couple games. Carlisle understands the importance of getting your entire team focussed on winning...and only winning. That is obvious right now with the recent play of the Pacers. But then again, we're now comparing Rick Carlisle to Brendan Malone...
Sorry for using the Pacers as an example...but I always have to bring them up ;)

I feel like you guys could of been good with drafting Nelson, Telfair or Iggy Dala
Luke Jackson isn't bad at all, i think he can be good, I just believe those guys would be better, and help Lebron a lot
Theres some rumors that your guys might come to my team the Knicks, Big Z and Lebron
Even though I would love that, as an NBA fan it would be sad to see Lebron leave his home because he saved that Franchise from dying and put life back into it
Anyway, I think this team is better for a high lottery pick than Playoffs, you don't want to face the Heat and get completely embarass, leave that to one of my divison rivals, the 76ers or Nets :D
TheDawgPound72
04-18-2005, 06:30 PM
The rumors about LeBron leaving are completely untrue. Dan Gilbert wouldn't have invested $375 million in the franchise if he thought he'd have to get rid of his two best players. The only compensation the Knicks could give us would be Jamal Crawford and every 1st round pick they have for the next 10 or so years.
I like Luke Jackson, he just got hurt, and wasn't getting enough playing time as it is. Hopefully, he'll be given a chance to play a lot next year.

Definately not the choke of the year, the T-wolves, and the Lakers are way worse.............I think the Cavs will still get in, Jersey and the Cavs both play the Celtics, which they should both lose, Jerseys other game is with the Wizards, which they should lose. All the Cavs have to do is beat the Raptors..........Off subject but I just noticed that the CLIP is in front of the Lakers out west, I never thought I'd see the day.

Nets and Cavs both won big games tonight. It all comes down to the last game of the season.
Nets vs. Celtics
Cavs vs. Raptors
If they both win, the Nets get in despite the same record as the Cavs.
Only way the Cavs get in, is if the Nets lose and they win.
Both teams are on the road...
Nets record on the road... 17 - 23
Cavs record on the road... 12 - 28
Celtics record at home... 27 - 12
Raptors record at home... 22 - 18
New Jersey is 8-2 in their last 10 games, while the Cavs are 4-6 in their last 10 games. Nets are 2-1 this season against the Celtics, the Cavs are also 2-1 against the Raptors.
I think both teams will win and the Nets will get in. I think its more important for the Cavs to get in, they need playoff experience more than they need a draft pick. The Nets probably deserve to be in the playoffs, because they have been busting their asses off for the past 3 weeks to get in. Those 2 games will be big tomorrow night.
