How long are users banned once they're banned?

Is it an "all-or-nothing" board- they're either in good standing or perma-banned, or is it where it's 1 day, then 2, then so on?

It depends on the offense. Judging by your first post being this, I'll assume your other account got banned. Am I correct?

Nope, this is my first time using this forum. Ever.

I just read the rules before signing up and it said do some of these various things and you'll get banned.

But they didn't say for how long so that's why I had to ask.

PS: Out of the total # of accounts registered on Ebaumsworld Forums, how many % of them (or how many of them, if % is unknown) are or have ever been banned?

If you want to see how many people are banned, go the the banned list, its in the Everything/Nothing section. It's a stickey, so it's near the top.

Btw, what if people only log on here through public computers?

As you see, someone could use a university library (that has hundreds of PCs), and if they get banned, they could just move to the next PC, make a new account, and pick up where they left off. I'm sure the forum bans by PC, so what does Ebaumsworld do about those who are in a position to use many PCs?

Well Dusty, how do they know if it's the same person or not? Chances are, that user will try to look like a different person as differently as possible.

There is a huge multitude of PCs here. Banning them each time a banned user uses them may take years. That is, if the user somehow shows that he's the same person each time, which is unlikely from what I can see.

If the offences are numerous from one area, the mods can track down the I.P. addy to the library, contact the school, and have the forums listed as a restricted site. so no one can access them.

As far as I've seen, the ban-limit is as low as 24hours to Perm ban... the infrations include anything from Double posting, Forum invasions, posting porn, Flame wars, one word posts, kicking up dead topics to add something totaly irelavent and even just pissing a mod off... you'll get diffrent sentances depending on the mod and how they are feeling that day... some might call that unfair, but it's ben working for us since it started.

Our Mod's are the fairest but also the harshest around, dont do anything stupid or piss them off and you'll be fine.

in libraries and such, most computer are all conected to one I.P adress so if one computer gets banned they all get banned....I know from experience. making fun of halo 2 on gamespy....

Mods on this forum ban new people like crazy for the stupidest reasons, or let some asshole stay no matter what he does because he has lots of posts and reps. They don’t care because they have so many people coming to this forum that it doesn’t matter if they ban tons of people, even if it is unfairly. Also, if you get perm banned for no reason their isn’t anything you can do because if you make a new account then you are just breaking more rules and no one cares enough to hear what you say. On the other hand if you don’t care about having a single name then if you download that logsignxm thing and have lots of gmail accounts and do the same you can sign up in like a second (image verification doesn’t work). I was banned for no reason a while ago and I made a new account to complain but then it just got banned again so I stopped caring. I probably make some of the best contributions to this forum but they are all on different names that get 2 or 3 posts before they are banned. So even if you never didn’t anything and got banned, and never do anything are any of your other accounts it doesn’t matter they ban you just for having multiple accounts. But like I said if you just want to make a posts every now and then who really cares…

Okay, TrippleD, before you get your butt thrown out of here again I'm gonna tell you what you could have done to get back in or at least find out why you we're banned.

You find a friend who comes to eBaums

You ask them to ask a Mod why you we're banned and for how long

then you either...

a) Explain/Beg/Grovel your way out of your banning (thats only if you have been Perm-Banned)

b) You wait it out and come back in after your banning has expired... thats the LOGICAL choice

YOU DO NOT create a second account to find out why you we're banned... thats a Perm-Banning and you shall never play here again.

The rules are for everyone, they make posting here fair for all members, just bacause you got banned don't think that the Mod's are out to get you, they have a job to do and they do it well.
