As has been mentioned, definitely Red Hot Chili Peppers. But I think you would like Dragonforce a lot. Very very talented power/speed metal band. I don't have a huge list of metal bands that i've heard/like, but I love Dragonforce. Get their album "Sonic Firestorm". Ummm... maybe you'd also like the Pixies + Radiohead + Modest Mouse.
