To be honest I don't really like Cannibal Corpse. What I wonder though is what inspired them to make music like that. Did one of them just think "Hey, let's go bang on instruments and have one of us make the sound of a dying boar for 50 minutes, add a name to it, and then call it an album?"

cannibal corpse isnt even good death metal though, they were around pretty early, and they were very popular, so they are more mainstream than other similar death metal bands. This caused people like you to hear 1 death metal band that is mediocre and declare it "kings" of a genre

if you want bands that are like cannibal corpse but dont suck try listening to death, sodom, suffocation, or cryptopsy

I guarentee you take 100 random people off the street, and have them listen to Cannibal Corpse and Atreyu, and take a poll on who sounded better, the majority would be Atreyu, so even if you "think" they suck, and their vocalist suck, (By the way, they have two, and Brandon Saller has a magnificient singing talent), atleast Atreyu doesnt have the same repetive beats and rhythm (if you want to claim Cannibal Corpse have rhythm), like Cannibal Corpse. First of all, you're taking two completely different genres of music here. Death metal isn't a very popular genre. Of course, people assume Slipknot and Atreyu are death.

I don't really like Cannibal too much. Well, I havn't really given them a chance, but from what i've heard, they aren't that great. Like MG said previously, just because they a somewhat mainstream death metal band, that doesn't make them master the genre.

...or you can take Chris Barnes , frontman of Cannibal Corpse's side project, Six Feet Under, and give them a listen. They have a couple of CD's where it's all Cannibal Corpse style versions of classic songs like Smoke On The Water, TNT, and Sweet Leaf. Pretty fun to listen to, yet dreadful.

I agree CC might not do it too good(I have their box set with best songs and thats all i need from them) but i know a hell lot more other black metal bands that are more repetitive than this and i get a huge kick from it.

Cannibal Corpse is not Grindcore get it in your head! Try Agathocles their grindcore, and yes if its repetitive its not really shit, Darkthrone is repetitive as well but I fucking love them. The point is that people have different opinions on music and you should all respect that.

Atreyu has been popular for a while to my dismay, and yeah lately their has been a lot of cannibal corpse merch alyhough i have never been to a hot topic they dont have them where I live. I just dont see the relation from Corpse to WWE.

Whether corpse r grindcore or death metal is really besides the point. Ive always been under the impression that they are grindcore, but wud accept them being called death metal as ive seen them named both in various places. Also i listen to sodom and cryptopsy and think dey is well gud aswell. Just happens i was listenin to sum corpse and decided to make a topic. Also felt if i made a thread on the likes of Sodom, Burzum or Nile (obviously not grindcore, just makin examples) i wudnt get much of a response.

I'll admit its one of the bands which is probably most difficult to distinguish songs, but after a while of listenin the difference in many of the songs becomes obvious. Also think they are a band who stick to their guns, as they r still releasing quality albums unlike many old bands which decide to make their music more mainstream (unless ya wanna class corpse as mainstream already). Either way, sum of the riffs r fuckin insane and the drumming in it is absolutly brilliant in my opinion. Suprised by the quality of the Wretched Spawn album, recently ive lost a lotta hope on new music, even if it is by bands who were once gud (Dimmu Borgir's recent offerings)

Yeah you guys are right, grindcore or death metl or whatever it doenst really matter. I don't think that their are clear cut guide lines on these things anyways. Bottom line is I have been listen to Corpse for many years now and I love all there hooks and i feel that they are one of the most insaine, heaviest bands ever. Shane is completely write there last CC still carries on the standard Cannibal Corpse has made for themselves.
