ok...where do I start...
I went out and bought that audio-computer adapter. Now I think I'm ready to start recording audio from vhs movies. Heres my questions:

Hooking up the adapter to my audio-in cords at the back of the tv. If I do that, will I be recording the audio INTERNALLY (before it gets to the tv speakers)?

If I'm recording the audio internally, will the quality or age of my TV affect the quality of the audio being recorded onto my computer? What if I'm not recording internally?

Basically I don't want to do all this work gathering quotes, then find out that the sound quality could have been a lot better if I had bought a newer tv. My tv is a jvc from 1995. It looks fairly modern.

SO DOES THE AGE OR QUALITY OF THE TV AFFECT THE AUDIO OUTPUT???

I don't think it effects the quality. My tv is pretty old and the sounds turn out great, just as long as the volume on the tv isn't too high. If it is too high the sounds get muffled and don't sound as crisp. I find it is much better to record them at a lower sound and increase the sounds on a sound editer like cool edit. And I'm kinda sure that it records internally, like puting headphones in the port on your computer. It never really gets to the speakers insted going to your headphones, same with the tv, taking the sounds directly from the video, but I could be wrong. But my sounds are good so I think it's internally. My sounds also have a slight hi-pitched hiss to them, either from the video or the tv, I'm not sure wich. It doesn't effect the soundboard at all though.

I hope that answers your questions, if it doesn't, go ahead and ask more questions.

Thanks. That gives me enough confident to do it tonight!!! This is going to be fun. Or work...
and btw.... the coolest soundboard "role" is in the works!!! There is no role that will ever top this one. If the sounds turn out ok. I'll keep you posted.

Well I did everything lastnight and it turned out great! You can barely make out the hissing noise from the tv in the backround. I don't think this is really going to be a great soundboard. But for me it will be, cause I'm a huge fan of this particular film. Has some great quotes in it aswell.

All I can tell you, is that this movie probably won't ever come out on dvd.
I also have other ideas. But THAT, I can't tell you just yet... This next project might take over a year to complete. Thats how insanely intense this will be.

A year?!!! I wonder what kind of soundboard would take a year to complete? So, has my method of ripping sounds won you over, or are you going to go back to dvds?

Well its going to be something along the lines of a Dr. Phil soundboard. Thats why it might take awhile.
I still prefer dvd sound over vhs JUST because your getting EXACTLY what came from the movie.
But vhs seems to be fine. Its pretty much the same sound, minus (-) the hissing (which doesn't make a difference).
I really bought the adapter so I could record sound from tv shows like Dr. Phil.
Now I need to find out how to actually get the video picture onto my computer. What kind of adapter would I need for that? And then comes the part of recording whatever my computer sees. hmm...

I'm taking a guess. You are making a Sue Johanson soundboard aren't you? How close am I?

Fuck that is an awsome idea for a soundboard. She has the perfect voice and everything. Thanks for the idea. But I don't have cable on this tv beside my computer yet so...I'll have to add it to my list of things to do that will never get done.

I've got cable, so I could make one. Who knows, maybe I will maybe I won't. But I thought I guessed your soundboard, because you said it was going to be a good one. And what better soundboard can you get than an older woman who talks about sex? "Think of all the possibilities Norm." (There's a little SNL reference for ya.)

Its called "The Sunday Night Sex Show". I think you can find it on the Womans network or something. I'm not sure if it airs down in the United States though.

It does. I'm from alabama, and it plays on oxygen down here.

is the show any good?

AndrewB

Yeah. Its basically an educational sex show where people phone in with their "dilemma" and ask Sue for advice. They don't hold back AT ALL. You can hear just about anything.
