That guy is an asshole! Is that in any way indicative of the way things are done "over there"? Man, oh man, if I was one of his students I would organize a revolt with my fellow students and ambush that prick in the parking lot. :shout:

Yeah that guy was an asshole, one kid looked like he was bleeding!!! I would just revolt with the other kids, like you said.

Or they could find another Karate teacher?
I'm sure the reason people go to that school is exaclty because the teacher is a hard ass. It builds character. No one is forcing the students to go there so if they really don't like it I'm sure they can find another karate school down the block.

Are you kidding? He looked like he was bleeding? He was bleeding profusely it looked from his nose. I am sure after that video got turned in though that guy probably lost his job. Why would you do that though? The kids aren't learning anything from it. Practicing karate and teaching the kids students is one thing, but that was just wrong. It's like someone coming up to you and whipping you with a fuckin belt because they dont like the way you walk. Fuck that guy they should all gang up on him and beat his ass. If your instructor doesn't respect you you shouldn't respect him.

Maybe I should have said I was using the term 'karate' losely...
If it is indeed just some sort of self defense class and the people taking it know what they're getting into then big deal. It's their choice to be there. You don't know the whole story, I don't know the whole story but there are many people out there who would prefer a class where the instructor beat them senseless over something more traditional.

yes, the class looks like theyre supposed to be trained to self-defense, to defend yourself you need to know how to withstand pain and taking blows. It may seem harsh to most of us but im sure if you were one of the students youd understand that theyre probably doing it so they can withstand such things and be tough asses.

I can tell your American. Heaven forbid someone do that here in the States, they would be sued by thousands of people.

I assume its' part of their culture to learn things like that, they probably have been doing things like that for literally tens of thousands of years.

The US is what, 230 years old?

Um....so the Japanese cultures predate Mesopotamia and other early civilizations by 4000 + years?

Interesting, I had no idea the Japanese were teaching Karate when the rest of the world was just learning how to grow crops and domesticate plants and animals. I'll have to tell my history teacher about that one.

When I used to go to karate, my teacher/trainer used to hit me with a stick while I trained, not in the face though. It prepares you to get hit and hits do not do as much damage.

(S)he never stated that Japanese civilzation predated Mesopotamian civilization (Which, might I add, doesn't exist anymore...), but the US is certainly an extremely young country compared to most European and Asian countries.

Thanks for that tip. I had no idea.

But it's pretty much the first major human civilization, which is dated as existing about 6000 years ago.

He or she said though, that what was being in shown in that video is part of their culture which has been done that way for "literally tens of thousands of years" which would mean that karate (the video doesn't look like self defense to me) would have been practiced since before any known human civilization which is proposterus.

Yes, the US is young, but it's not "tens of thousands" of years younger.

EAB.... if you want to be technical the US is just as old as any other continent. Just because people haven't been living on it as long doesn't make the continent itself any newer. And another thing... if this had been going on then why did the instructor try to chase the person with the camera out. Common sense leads one to believe he didn't want anyone to see what the hell he was doing to the kids eh? Otherwise the camera should not have offended him.

Like someone else said, if they don't want to be there they can simply leave. Obviously they knew this teacher was an asshole when joining up. but that's what makes it more worth succeeding in such a class. Personally, fuck that, not worth learning karate in my book. But, psychologically while punishment may not morally be the right way to condition someone it is an effective way, and that's why this teacher uses it.

Last time I checked most people, in general, don't like to be videotaped without consent, whether it's eating, talking, driving, whatever.

He's not a Karate teacher. He's a former Shooto fighter. Shooto is an MMA organization in Japan. Yes hes an asshole but htose people choose to be in that class and knew what was coming to them. They are doing that to train to be able to fight in Shooto.

Wow I got negged for this haha and it put me in the red... the neg said I should "brush up on current issues". I'm tired of foreigners having such a know-it-all self riteous attitude. Whats wrong with what I posted?? I said that we are one of the most advanced, which is true. I never claimed that we were #1. I said one of the best in every field. It's true look on the top list of anything and the U.S. is most likely on it. Thanks for the neg anyway though, mind coming out in the open and actually telling me what "current issues" that I missed that made America a shitty third world country?

That being said I am by no means a patriot. I love the United States becasue it is my home, but I also travel to europe a lot and enjoy the experience and culture very much.

Don't mind that stuff. It doesn't matter who it is...when you're successful there are people who are insecure and who generally want to try and belittle you.

It doesn't matter whether it's business...international politics...whatever.

What do you mean "one of the best"? The US dominates the world technologically, economically, culturally, politically, militarily, and in pretty much every single way that is possible to measure or observe. We're so much in front that it is a BIG DEAL if any other country gets ahead of us in even the littlest thing.

In another 10-20 years we will have one of the best (English) football teams in the world, too, then everyone will really hate us. :P

But, honestly, I think it's pretty sad that the rest of the world is so backwards they can't even keep up with the US (which certainly has many flaws).

We are the number 1. You dont believe me? Go ahead. go to war with us right now.. it would be great to expand our terrotory. And dont you dare try to say i spelled stuff wrong or my grammer was messed up because that what just prove how you cannot defend yourself.. we are so tech. advanced that we have nano-tech on our clothes. Why dont you have anything good? Japan tryed to dump us and with one move they surrendered.. one bombing. Soon we'll have a force field arouns amercia and your nukes wont even get through. Soon well have the enterprise floating out there and you will still say we suck.. because your just jealous and mad cause you dont think its right. In reality, we are blessed by God.. you cant win. We are so much advanced then the rest of you guys were like the Federation. So quit complaining. get over it.

I am an American, and bragging about America makes you sound uneducated. Sure we are a "super power" right now, but that doesn't really mean that much. There are other countries out there too with nukes that we would never mess with. You think just because at this certain point in history we are rich, means we will always be rich? Well history shows us that usually that's not the case.

Just because our country has money or a more advanced military, doesn't make us any better than any other countries. We could lose all that real fast. And it's true that Americans are spoilt, lazy, and fat compared to the rest of the world, and that's nothing to be proud of. A country cannot stay on top if it's people are not hard-working and take everything for granted. Eventually a country of lazy people will lose it's power. You know we are the most wasteful country in the world, and that's not good for our future.

Also, you cannot even begin to compare America to Asian civilizations which are thousands of years old. American is not even an infant compared to them. And the fact that we are such a new country is a big part of why we are so wealthy. Thousands of years takes it's toll on any country, population-wise, poverty-wise, resources-wise, etc.

So stop bragging like a typical uneducated, arrogant Americans, and just be thankful that our country is in the situation is it right now.

And guess what, the rest of the world doesn't give a horse's dung about American football.

Gee, I wonder if its because every other bastard in those countries looks exactly the same! I guess when you look at it from YOUR point of view, it looks as if America has its head up its ass, but in reality, finding ASSama is like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack. i dont REALLY think america has its head up its arse, just that the whole "lets get osama" mission was half-arsed probably on purpose (by dubya & his evil little pixies) in order to create a hysteria about arabs. then he could go (with blair) and blow up kids for oil in iraq.
the s.a.s could have popped a cap in osamas turban without creating that whole "war" type fuss. and im pretty sure u.s. special forces could have done the same. why didnt they? :wtf:

any way that karate guy is a fat prick if i do say so myself (sitting thousand of miles away from him!) :p

i know i'm late and all for this thread, but i just had to put in my 2 cents. i don't know what level the students are training at, but it looks to me they are beginners. this is probably the "initiation process" everyone is familiar with. with sumo wrestlers, the older, more experienced sumo wrestles embarrass, humiliate, and openly taunt the newbies. it's... initiation.

we americans are familiar with this too, you know. remember frats? remember all the crazy things they make you do? like... swallowing goldfish, drinking until your stomach has to be pumped.... recently, there was a frat that had to go under investigation because one of their commitment/initiation methods was to strip down the new member and shoot him with bb guns. the boy had to be taken to the hospital for wounds (they must have done it for a long time).

don't be so quick to judge other cultures. these are the extremes that exist in societies, AS WELL AS OURS. you just have to look hard enough to find them.
