Is the age of the SUV already coming to a close? It looks a hell of alot like how the muscle car age was ended: raising gas prices, and Japan making fuel efficient cars to take the place of the muscle car. And now? Now we have fuel prices skyrocketing once again, and Japan, once again, has cars that are fuel efficent, and fun to drive.

Is the day where the SUV is bought for the random hell of it coming to a close already?

I dont think its over... if anything its still growing, since Ford made the Hybrid SUV, good things are happening for SUV's.

No, we will always have soccer moms... :p

But I do hope it ends, hate to see SUVs being used without their real purpose being fullfilled.

Well, not quite die off. I mean like, is there time of being bought stupidly by people who buy them for no reason about to come to an end.

My mom just bought a new Chevy Trail Blazer over the weekend.

Women love big vehicles. If we kill all the women, then problem solved.

I'll start tonight.

I don't think so. Most people buy SUVs and trucks and know what kind of fuel expenses they are getting into. They are going to be at the gas station every week or so anyway. Whats it matter to them if it costs another 5 or 10 bucks to fill the tank. SUVs aren't meant to be fuel efficient, and the people who buy them aren't expecting 25 mpg. There might be a dip in sales for a while, but "The age of the SUV" is not over.

I hope we'll go back to the days where people who drove SUVs and gigantic trucks actually needed to.

INSTEAD OF TAKING UP 2 FUCKING PARKING STALLS WHEN THEY GO SHOPPING AT MACYS.

Think theres a few million just like me ?

Yup

After you've driven for over a quarter century as I have..

You tend to kinda stick with what you like...

Heres a thought:
Could any of us give up the internet ?

Nope

I think the muscle car era was ended more due to new environmental emission regulations then rising fuel costs. When President Nixon signed the clean air act in 1970/71 the US car companies had about 6 years to reduce their cars particulate emissions by 90%. They focus totally changed from performance when this happened and would remain that way for well over a decade.

My point? As long as people are allowed to buy gas-guzzlers they will, hence the muscle car era probably would have declined but not ended if the clean air act wasn’t signed.
As long as there is no government interference then the SUV market will never die.

The SUV age is far from over. My family owns a Chevy dealership, my mom could chose from any Chevy model or even used cars, but she hasn't driven anything other than a full sized Trailblazer for almost two years. I am sure there is many more women like her out there too. I wouldn't count on the SUV agen to be over anytime soon, especially when Japanese automakers are stepping into the SUV market.

Your family owns a chevy dealership, you better have a C6 and better be getting the Z06.

Chances are the Z06 won't be a normal production car anymore. It's gone from a more powerful, slightly modded Corvette, to a similar looking but completely different species pretty much. My guess is they will produce it like Dodge does the Viper: You ask for one, we will make it then, and only then (but not hand-made, obviously).

That is interesting, especially since half the American autoindustry is SUV's at the time (or something........irritatingly close).

I wish. :(
Still waiting for a C6 to come in so i can have a look at it. We live in a small town in New York, so we get the best cars last, because there is less of a demand.

Ok, you will know more about the Z06 production then the speculation I can offer. Any clue as to if it's a set-number run, mass production run, or produce-on-demand?

People are now buying small SUV's, not the excusions and such, so its not over, just taking a differnt path then before.
