What is the greatest sports city in the world? This goes for European sports cities as well as American.

Lexington, Kentucky, home of Rupp Arena, the Mecca of College Basketball.

But in all seriousness, New York, hoem of the Yankees, Mets, Knicks, Jets, Rangers and Islanders.

Not the Giants, they're in New Jersey, they don't have the balls to admit it.

My bad, I forgot to mention that fans of teams like the yankees and Man U dont get to represent their Cities in this thread because they always win and fans of those cities teams dont really know what it is like to have a losing season so, New York, Manchester (unless your a city fan), madrid, fuck off bitches!

I hate every team in New York.

I'm a Cubs fan, Browns fan, Pistons fan.

Nor am I from New York.

I'm a Kentuckian, not an ass. ;)

I'm just giving credit where credit is due.

Sorry about that, I was actually thinking more in terms of the greatest city with the best fans, not the most success.

I say its either Chicago, Boston , New York, or Los Angeles.

Cleveland without a doubt.

If not talking about Cleveland, I'd go with Boston. They have the Red Sox and Pats, and the Celtics were good for all those years in the 80s. It's hard to argue against New York, but they just have too many teams who haven't done much, only the Yankees.

I'd say in the US its New York, Canada I'll go with Vancouver, they love thier hockey. As for the UK Manchester.

It's a humor forum! I was making a joke! I wasn't making a big deal about Giants Stadium being in New Jersey!
You are the one who is unable to detect sarcasm and has hijacked this thread.

Great sports cities in the U.S. include New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angelos and Philadelphia. I'm sure there are great supporters of each team in other cities, but those cities have the media and stress to make it a real sports city.

In the world, you would have to throw in pretty much every soccer city that has a team in their respective first divisions. Soccer fans are die hard around the world.

 LA ???

A sports mecca ?

The city that lost 2 NFL franchises in the course of a few years ?

When I think of sports cities in the USA...

1. Cleveland
2. The Twin Cities
3. Boston
4. Chicago
5. Philidelphia

I think the heartland of the USA speaks volumes on the fan loyality...

Green Bay...a city of just over 100,000 can support an NFL franchise...

And theres a 25 year wait for tickets...

I might be kind of biased but I think Indiana is. I mean Basketball was practically born here. and we are the home to the NCAA Championship every year. we have some great professional teams NBA NFL. We also have You know one of the biggest races in the world. The INDY 500 The IMS (Indianapolis Motor Speedway) is one of the most popular tracks in the world.

My dad is from Asia and even before he came to the U.S. he knew where and what Indiana was because of the Indy 500.

Just my 2 cents

I'm not gonna shit on you, I respect that, even though Reggie Miller and the Pacers been a pain in the ass to the Knicks for almost 2 decades, its really hard NOT to respect a great professional athelete like reggie

Tinsley and Artest are some of my really favorite players, guys from the city and Rick Charlie is seriously underrated, after all the shit that went down with the Brawl, the injuries, the 6 man roster, he still managed to coach this team to the playoffs...which is very impressive

lol...I don't really watch NASCAR, but I figure Indi runs it right? anyway thats cool

I can understand why you would say that, so nice post

Funny ....I did have Indianapolis on the list...
I changed it to Phily due to not having an MLB team...

Indy's definitly why I said the midwest (heartland) kinda ups both coasts...

Boston - Red Sox are defending world champs, Patriots are two-time defending world champs, Celtics have the most NBA championships ever (I think), and fans have a lot of pride.

And, for the record, the Jets play in Giants Stadium, which is in NJ.

Gotta be Chicago. All of our teams usually suck and are the worst in their divisio n and almost every game for every franchise is sold out.

Some may say Boston, but look at their teams...

Red Sox (won World Series)
Patriots (won 3 Super Bowls in 4 years)
Celtics (playoffs)
Bruins (would contend for Stanley Cup if not for strike)

Same goes for New York.

For soccer, I guess you have to be in London, it has 6 clubs in the premier league, if I'm not mistaken. Amongst which Arsenal (defending champ) Chelsea (new champ) and Tottenham Hotspurs (surprise of the season, imo).

Atlanta is the best. Besides just the 4 major sports being represented here, Atlanta also has Nascar and has hosted the Olympics, Final Four, Super Bowl, World Series, and PGA Championship. Atlanta is a sports mecca.

charlotte nc. why?, because we are gettin a whitewater park. not just any whitewater park, but the national whitewater center. only one like it in the country. and the best part is its open to the public. 13 million gallons, four channels of varying difficulty, 1200 cfs flow. open 8-11 all year long. opening june of 06. finally a city decides to build a sports complex for the people instead of a bunch of overpaid crybaby thugs (professional athletes)

Have to agree with Gigatonblast how can LA be a great sports town. I can't believe the NFL is talking about puting another franchise in LA, did they not learn their lesson.

I vote for Philly, rabid fans and long suffering fans. Its easy to be a fan of winning clubs but try living in a town where you have not won a major championship in any of the four major sports since 83.

Curse of Billy Penn http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/99-01172003-29549.html

"Take a trip back - 1983. A good year, the last one before the consummation of the curse.

The Sixers won the NBA title in the spring of '83, and the city swam in banners and pride. A gleeful parade down Market Street, a cathartic tribute at Veterans Stadium, it was a party.

It was also Philly's fourth sports championship in nine years: The Flyers won two, in '74 and '75; and the Phillies in '80. A glorious time.

Enter 1984 - the year of doom."

I don't know the city name, but if were talking world wide, I would have to go with Brazil. I think that there was a war going on in Brazil, and it either stopped or it slowed down so people could watch the Futbol match. Those crazy Portugese.

They're Brazilian, not Portuguese

garnett4mvp
05-10-2005, 07:20 PM
I guess your half right. After a while they do become brazilian and not portugese. But they are not indgenous brazilians. The Indians of their land are deep in the rain forest. It's kind of like Mexico, not many full Mexicans left because of Hernando Cortez. Now everyone is Hispanic. Oh well.

s3xyjesus
05-10-2005, 07:50 PM
you're right...Hispanic is our view, but if we go they its a different world, they really hate the portuguese and the argentines, those are their rivals, so I just wanted to tell you not..not tryign to be an asshole ;)

garnett4mvp
05-10-2005, 08:37 PM
Nor was I. It's just one of those rare things I have any knowledge of. If I was Brazilian I would hate the Portugese too. Maybe not them as much as the pope that divided up South America between the Spanish and the Portugese.

I dont know about city but for football/ soccer the Northwest of England has to be top of the tree... Liverpool, Manchester United (the 2 most successful teams) aswell as Everton, Manchester City, Bolton and Blackburn.... Ok the last 4 arent that great but City and Everton are massive teams, Blackburn have won the Premiership and Bolton Wanderers are fast becoming a very good team.

at least my quarterback didnt take 5 years to get his starting job and can throw farther then 20 yards. at least the giants can beat the rams, and by the way, giants get a brand new stadium in 2008, and they are paying for it from PRIVATE funds, not like the jets who are gonna leech off the taxpayers just like they leech of us. oh, and if were gonna talk about playoffs, my team has been past a conference championship in the past 40 years. 3 of them in fact. and lets not start on divisionals and wildcards

and by the way, i wasnt talking to you i was talking to the dumbshit kentucky bitch who hates new york because his piss ass state has no championship banners to hang up in his trailer.
