Hey, I'm looking for a good used car, and I am considering a Jeep Wrangler.

This would be my first car ever, so keep in mind I don't know much about them.

I have heard that Wranglers can be unreliable, but then I have also heard that they are really reliable as long as you take care of them. Any of you have first hand expirence/know more about this?

Also, do you think I could get a good one for around 7 grand, I like in Mass by the way.

side note: My first post.... woohoo

Get the 4.0L inline 6 cylinder if you get a Jeep. Its the only way to go, that engine is pretty solid if you take care of it. Besides, Jeeps are beasts off road, and you might want the bigger engine if you go the lift/tires route.

Not a good idea. Test drive it. My beef with the wrangler is that the suspension sucks. Not only do you feel every bump possible in the road, but everytime you take a turn, there is a unreasonable amount of body roll. I drove my friends and it seemed wierd, the suspension was loose enough so that the car roled like crazy, but i felt every bump. If your gonna get a jeep, id get like a grand chrokee or just a cherokee.

You don't buy a Jeep for tight handling and no body roll. You buy it so you can drive around with the top and doors off and do some offroading. The Jeeps don't have a cushy ride, but most people don't care because they aren't driving a luxury car. Making that comparison is like saying that BMWs would blow off road, and thats why you shouldn't buy one.

yeah, of course, but the average person who buys a wrangler does not take it off roading.... So i would go with a grand cherokee

Agreed, if I wasn't gonna do any off-roading I would definetly look elsewhere. Jeeps aren't the best of the lot for a street only car. They are kinda rickety, have a very open feel to them, and they can be easily broken into. Plus, they are pretty cold in the winter and hot in the summer. I think that they are really neat cars, but not too practical.

go to AutoTrader.com (www.autotrader.com) or Cars.com (www.cars.com) to search for used stuff in your area.

jeep wranglers are one of the coolest and fun to drive vehicles out there. Cruise in the summer with the top and doors off, its a beast offroad, and its still good for the winter. Its definitely a no-nonsense kind of vehicle. If you want luxery dont buy it.

For the comfort, doesnt have much of it. But go to Mastercraft and get a set of their suspension seats, they are comfortable as hell, like you are floating on air. And the best part is that you retain the stock seatbelts and mounting hardware.

If you get one make sure its the 4.0 I6. The 4 cyl version is horribly underpowered, and actually gets worse gas mileage i believe. Id guess that the 0-60 time is well over 10 seconds with the 4 cyl version, they are just plain slow. But the 4.0 has really good power. Another plus is the HUGE aftermarket for the wrangler, Id bet money that theres not another vehicle that has a bigger aftermarket.
