Ok I'm a huge Broncos fan but I am totally confused by this off season. First they sign the entire Browns D line (who sucked last year). Then they draft Clarett(spelling?) and three DB's. Now they are going to sign that punter from Carolina that was involved with the steriod thing last year. Does any one else think that the "Genius" Shanahan has gone off the deep end?

I dont think anyone has ever considered Shanahan a genius, but he's got a hell of an offensive rushing line, I think thats the reason for signing Clarett, I could rush for 1,000 yards in 1 season behind the Broncos offensive lineman.
I believe the reason for the DB's is, well, who really stands out in the Broncos cornerbacks aside from Champ Bailey? Perhaps Shanahan wants to find a more dominant cornerback for the coverage.

The Broncos are cheap shot artists - see their entire O Line for more examples than anyone cares to mention. Shanahan is not a genius. He never was. He does have a big ego, though. Before you know it, he will sign Freddie Mitchell. Which will be great, because Rodney Harrison will be pumped to nail him again and make him look like a fool :D
Terrell Davis, John Elway and Smith. That's the Broncos right there. Too bad two of 'em don't play anymore...

Drafting Clarrett was an incredibly stupid move. That guy wont amount to much, and hes prob the luckiest man in pro sports right now.

The Broncos have Bailey, Middlebrooks (who's never lived up to expectations), and Lenny Walls (injured last year). All of them are good CBs, Bailey being one of the best in the league, and both Middlebrooks and Walls are good at the other side. I can see drafting 1 or 2, but no way 3. And Clarett probably would have fallen, and Denver's given themselves a possible big headache.

Does anyone else see this Clarett drafting as just a huge PR move? I mean come on, it was the last pick of the first day of the draft, he's the biggest name in the draft, and he gets drafted when he shouldn't have. That's all just a little too coincidental for me.

Shanahan's not stupid. I think it's safe to say that a 2 time super bowl winning coach probably has something in mind for him. Maybe Shanahan actually has faith in him, and thinks he can be as kick ass as he was in college.

Three cb drafts are too many. Two would have been fine but the teams in their league are going to pass quite a bit. The Raiders, whom picked up moss, the Chiefs, and the Chargers. All of these teams have a some good recievers. Maybe Shanahan wants make pass defense a strong point.
Hey the man has to have some plan for these people. No coach in his right mind would do all this purely for PR and the national sports spotlight.
Okay...maybe some coaches would...but Shanahan coached T. Davis. That has to mean something.

Broncos are a good qb away from a super bowl , i've liked jake plummer for years and even during his high interception days i felt he stil lhad talent but i dont think he is the right fit for the broncos i think they need a simple pocket passer, someone cheap something like what chris chandler was to atlanta in the late 90's and let the runners to the work, clarret should get 400 carries.

He'd be lucky to see the field this year

I honestly believe watch out for Clarret, yes I know I sound crazy, but the Broncos have the best O-Line in the game right now, heck, they could put Stephen Hawking out there and he could have a 100 yard game

You know, that is actually not a bad prediction. Especially considering, like you said, the Broncos OLine got Reuben Droughns 1000 yards last season. If Clarett is even anywhere near as good as he was 2 years ago (which he probably isn't), he could cause some serious trouble.

Yeah, Ohio State always had one of the best lines in College, and Clarret used it to his advantage, I see him doing that in the pros as well.

Three cb drafts are too many.
No kidding, say that to my Patriots who ended up playing a 33-year old WR as a CB for most of the year, including the SB... which the Pats won (Gotta rub it in from time to time ;) )

Now they have traded for Todd Sauerban, one of the Panthers players that allegedly used steroids, and it looks like Jerry Rice might be coming there way. Shanahan coached Rice when he was the off-coordinator for the Niners from 92-94.
They just signed Rice to a 1-year deal. He'll probably be the 4th receiver behind smith lelie and watts, so he won't get much playing time.
EDIT:Double post removed (mg)
Fantasy predictions:
Jerry Rice will be the number one receiver in the league next year. 20 touchdowns.

Getting sauerbrun was an amazing deal. Fuck the steroids scandal, he's the best young punter in the league. I've watched him practice, and he just nails them.
And clarett has a lot to prove, and he's going into a system that churns out thousand yard rushers (thanks in part to what xbl talked about, cheap OL)

You guys are idiots.
Clarett just needs his chance, his morals and personal character in no way determine how he performs on the field.....
I don't like him either, but we all know he will at least amount to an average back throughout his career.
I think me and the MG unit had this convo earlier.

Actually, if you've seen his interviews Maurice Clarett comes off as a pretty cool guy....but yeah about Bronco's, why did they sign 82 year old Jerry Rice?

Actually facing Peyton Manning in the playoffs means no championship.
