SOAD's new album Mezmerize leaked earlier this week... and it was damn hard to download... but anyway... the songs were... NOTHING LIKE I EXPECTED DAMN ><... but they're still good.. just different than what SOAD used to be like. If you like the old SOAD then you might not like this =/
1 - Soldier Side (Intro)
2 - BYOB (nothing new)
3 - Revenga (fast paced and ... fast...)
4 - Cigaro (wtf is this??? also nothing new)
5 - Radio/Video ("Hey man! Look at me rockin' OUT!! I'm on the radiooooo!!!")
6 - This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song (Love it because its all Serj singing... fast and almost hilarious. one of the better ones on the CD)
7 - Violent Pornography (classic SOAD craziness)
8 - Question! (one of the best on the album Featuring Serj... kind of a haunting feel to it)
9 - Sad Statue ("You and me will all go down in history with a Sad Statue of Liberty and a generation that didn't agree")
10 - Old School Hollywood (they tried some new stuff here... alot of Daron and electronic "Old School Hollywood, baseball" and daron saying "hey man dont you touch my belt" :insane: )
11 - Lost in Hollywood (another one of the best on the album. every soad cd has to have a slower song)
Daron sings ALOT more in this album and his high-pitch voice is just annoying at times... i like the cd though
i mean how couldn't you like "GONORRHEA GORGONZOLA GONORRHEA GORGONZOLA" :insane:
just cause i have nothing really to say about it... :insane: :bang: :insane:

man old system rocked, they were my favorite band for a good 5 years, but they've been going downhill since toxicity....I learned to belly danced to "fuck the system" and now their music just isn't the same...

the albums pretty tight. i was suprised. They have some real creative songs, and the guitar sounds better than ever I think. They made themselves stand out even more. As far as i can tell there's no other band like them.

im sorry but they haven't. They have added more backup vocals (alot more) but thats it. It still has the complete old feel to it which was in tox and steal this. Im liking this album 2nd best though. Although im not sure how your thinking this is a changed SOAD, they still have that good old feel to each song. My favourite song (which I would not of thought last week) is infact lost in hollywood. Its such a brilliant slow song, the lyrics are amazing and the vocals to it has a really exceptional sound to it. I shall be buying this album and most likely hypnotize (whenever is comes out). :bang:

They actually have changed a lot, not their style but the composition of their album(s). If you consider Toxicity (which i consider their best album) it had that amazing balance between slow songs and good ol' heavy songs (Chop Suey, Deer Dance, Forest, Needles, A.T.W.A., Prison)
I actually got the album (320kpbs, pretty fast download took 7 min and great quality) and I like this album a lot. I have always liked SOAD's slower Armenian influenced songs and this album had a lot of it. With Radio\Video's verse's being some awsome finger picking - folk styled and the awsome intro riff. My favorite songs would have to be.....Radio\Video, Violent Pornography, Sad Statue, and Lost In Hollywood
Mostly all of the slow songs on their album. The only heavy songs on their album, i consider, are Cigaro, B.Y.O.B.(barley...) and Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like Im On This Song (barley again....)
Also Daron does a ton more singing in this album. At time i felt like he was the main singer instead of Serj.....but yea....
Some ppl will like the transition to a softer side, others will hate it. Personally i think its pretty sick.
I learned to belly danced to "fuck the system"
Hahahaha thats fucking awsome

their first album still remains my favorite...
Steal This Album seems the most like their self-titled album than anything else... to me... does STA seem like their first album to you?
i mean, to me, Toxicity and Mezmerize sound different than those ( not a bad thing)

No, they're cool, and I think BYOB is cool too. Different, but cool.
But as far as May releases go, I care a lot more about Audioslave. :bang:

In saying that, "they haven't changed" was meaning that it is still SOAD's old style...the overall feel to the album is still good old SOAD, they haven't followed anyone music wise, which is brilliant. Their intence finger picking in songs such as BYOB is that of toxicity. I think it's great that they are keeping to their very own style. They really should be in their own genre of music. SOAD rock! can't wait for hypnotize. Rock on SOAD fans and support them by buying their albums

It's a song on the album, that kicks righteous ass by the way. The album is awesome, can't wait to get the retail.
I don't get why everyone thinks it's not as heavy, I'd say its about the same difference between the self-title and Toxicity. They're kinda all heavy in different ways. Eitherway, I'll bet money that hypnotize will will have everything that anyone thinks this album doesn't. This is just to whet our appatites :bang:

I just got my preordered Mezmerize cd in yesterday. I was suprised since I got it 4 days before the album is supposed to hit stores.
I've been a long time SOAD fan since their self-titled album was released, and damn I can't believe how much this band has progressed during the years. Some say they have "changed," but I think of it more as a progression. I think every respectable band must progress their sound, musical style and such. And besides, SOAD has always been an experimental band, always redefining their sound.
Anyway, this new album is amazing. The guitar riffs are strong, there are a good amount of guitar solos, the drums and double-bass (something new to this album) are solid, and of course the vocals/lyrics are amazing.
I know Randal3 posted a review...but I decided to add my own here.
Song List:
-Soldier Side-Intro (slow intro song)
-BYOB (fast paced, frantic political song, with slow chorus)
-Revenga (the fast vocals/riffs are sweet)
-Cigaro (this is a classic example of SOAD's humorous/bizarre side)
-Radio/Video (slow intro, leading into an upbeat riff, later a progressively faster solo)
-This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song (Serj's crazy vocals throughout the song)
-Violent Pornography (This song's lyrics are so true. Great song)
-Question (this is probably my favorite, just brilliant. Listen to it to appreciate it)
-Sad Statue (fast paced. Once again, great lyrics)
-Old School Hollywood (As pointed out by Randal3, this is an experimental song)
-Lost In Hollywood (Very chill song, lyrics are great to say the least)
Just a side note, I always hate when you buy a cd and you end up liking only a few songs off it. SOAD is one of the few bands where this is the exception. SOAD always delievers quality over quantity. This album is no exception. There is no filler! :)
Mezmerize is short however...I think it is about 40 minutes long. It's short but fucking sweet.
An amazing and very original band. In my eyes, there is no band like SOAD. They deserve props :bang: :D
Can't wait until Hypnotize.
Verdict: 5/5

The guitar and bass on this album is freakin incredible. Listen to Question and Old School Hollywood for the guitar riffs and just guitar outbursts and Radio/Video and Lost in Hollywood for the bass. Seems like the crazy old SOAD I always knew.

I used to be a huge SOAD fan..but one thing i realized that they bothered me about them was that Serj's lyrics dont make sense. They are just cool words he makes sentences with. I really doubt Serj has any idea about most of the lyrics he is writing. There are political and other clever songs where the lyrics are good though

I love the old SOAD, I bought Toxicity the day it came out and I played that thing every damn day for a good month or two. Their music seemed so focused and just righteous as hell. But as soon as I heard the first track on Steal This Album (which was about a freaking pizza) I lost all hope in them. I heard that a lot of their songs are so random and a sad attempt to be funny. I might download a couple of their new songs just to see what they're like nowadays. If anyone knows any of their new songs that sounds like old SOAD (aka good) let me know.

We're all sorry that your puny intellectual abilities can't interpret the band's lyrics. Trust me, each song has its own unique meaning.
Now name one song that doesn't make sense to you and I'll try to better explain it. (With the exception of maybe one or two)

Someone way back when said something like:
"There are people who will claim that Serj is of much higher intellectual ability than the rest of us, and we 'just can't understand' because of that - when in fact he's probably just high or drunk or just making up some bullshit."
I'm inclined to agree. But that's not so bad. Robert Plant spewed out the lyrics to Stairway To Heaven in less than an hour while he was drunk. (It then took Paige a couple months to compose the music :p )

System of a Down is such an awesome and unique band. A band with talent, a message to society, and originality.
With it's self titled album SOAD came out with Spiders. This song is probably the best song written by them, in my opinion. Songs that not only made you think, what the hell is he talking about. But in the beginning of each song it made you want to listen to the rest of it. And by the end of the song you can't wait to hear it again.
Toxicity is the best album ever! I can sing along to every song on this cd. It's freakin awesome. There doesn't seem to be any words for this perfection. Wonderful riffs, beautiful transitions, mesmerizing lyrics, a cd every band should strive to record. I love every song! "Pyscho, Groupie, Cocaine, Crazy!" Just a fun cd, I can't get enough of.
Steal This Album another fun cd. It was just great to see this great band continue in its awesomness! :bang:
And now Mesmerize. My second favorite cd (next to Toxicity) I love that Daron and Serj sing in the best harmony for this kind of music. :D B.Y.O.B was a great start. And yay for Violent Pornography! All of them are great and I can't wait for Hypnotize.
I am a big fan of SOAD and always will be. (yay for buying their cds!!) :bang: Rock On!
