Dark Side Of The Moon is my favorite album. My favorite song is time. How about yours?

Mine is Dark Side of The Moon as well, a close second would be Meddle

Wish You Were Here and Animals are better than Dark Side and The Wall. My guess is those are the only two albums of their's you've heard, as they are the most popular.

Dark Side is indeed overrated.

My favourite album is Animals, i think they displayed the best musicianship in that album. Sheep and Dogs kick ass.

Manfred Mann
05-15-2005, 02:42 PM
How is Dark Side of the Moon overrated? A lot of the songs on that album are on the radio yea...but say none of the songs from that album were never played on the radio...I think most would say wow you need to check out Dark Side of the Moon it might be their best album.

no you need to check out Animals before you say anything else. I can already tell your brainwashed because you think just because an album doesnt get airplay on the radio its not good? Youve obviously never heard Animals either because then youd know all of the songs on it are too long to be put on the radio, thats the exact reason why Dark Side is overrated, because it gets so much airplay and its so widely praised even though its obviously not Pink Floyd's best work, anybody whos heard a decent amount of their songs aside from Dark Side of The Moon would know that.

My advice to you: go check out Animals and Wish You Were Here, then come back and tell me Dark Side is their best and most deservingly praised album.

edit: ok you edited your post, still, even if Dark Side didnt get as much play time as it did, its still not their best album.

If you would of read my post earlier i said I have both Animals and Wish You Were Here, as in I own them, so I have listened to them. I know they are too long to play on the radio. Both are great cds, no doubt, I just seem to enjoy DSOTM a lot. I'm pretty sure the thread title reads: "Pink Floyd-What's your favorite album?", not which is the best, indeed, Animals shows good musicianship, but that doesnt mean that makes it the favorite in others minds.

Also, people might have a favorite song on one album, but say another cd is their best because overall the songs are better as a whole. Would that mean the album with the persons favorite song should be the one they choose as being the best?

definitely The Wall because it tells a story and i love the songs.

Mount_Happy, i agree that DSotM is a overrated album, but that doesn't mean that it can't be someones favorite album. it's one of my favorite albums, but there are other amazing albums as well (Animals, Wish You were Here, The Wall). why i like DsotM is because of it's amazing use of its instruments. if you listen through about all the songs, the drumming and vocals are so calming (same with guitar, but not all of the songs).

I didnt argue that it was someones favourite album, this is what i argued:

you need to check out Dark Side of the Moon it might be their best album.

and thats all i was arguing, i could care less if it was someones most favourite album, or someones least favourite.

I didnt mean it in a sense that you should go check it out, I assumed you have heard it already. And why would you post in a thread that you could care less if its someone most or least favorite album in a thread titled "Pink Floyd-Whats your favorite album"? I'm not trying to anger you, you just seemed to jump the gun a little bit and were preaching me on how I should check out Animals and Wish You Were Here when I had already posted I have those two albums. I agree with you, those albums are great, the songs are to long to play on the radio, but that doesnt mean "oh well you are brainwashed because if an album isnt played on the radio its not good" should be assumed of me. I have the other cds, you just were to blind to see my other post.

How's about Ummugumma and Atom Heart Mother? Those are two of my favorite. Choosing a favorite Floyd album is like choosing between apples and apples.

My top 3 right now are Meddle, WYWH and DSotM.

I'm not a big fan of Animals but I do enjoy it. I think Dogs is an overrated song, especially people who praise it's genius. It's a good song but there isn't some big hidden message behind it. Anyone who has read Animal Farm knows this.

LIEK OMG DSOTM IS MY FAV CUZ IT'S ALL I HAVE is all I'm hearing out of most of you.
For any TRUE Floyd fan, there is no definite best album, nor is there any best PF song. All are simply incredible, whether lead by Barrett or Waters or Gilmour.
Get your heads out of your asses and look past The Wall and DSOTM and Wish You Were Here and pick up some of their older albums. Shit.

it is true, Pink Floyd was not the same without Syd Barret, but tPatGoD is definetely not their ownly good album. sure Syd Barret was very important, but they were still amazing even when he was cut from pink floyd.

Y'know Barrett does Jugband Blues on A Saucerful of Secrets...he didn't completely leave after they picked up Gilmour. Not until the drugs started affecting his performance. When this happened, the band slowly pushed him out.

1. Dark Side of the Moon
:Less of an album than an expirience. Excellent blend of lyrics with music
2. Wish You Were Here
:Better individual songs than DSotM. More music-oriented. Tremendous.
3. The Wall
:Excellent songs on here. Great album. I skip large portions of it at times though. Not entirely fond of Rogers voice, but it works.
4. Animals
:Great concept album. Not their best work, though. I love "pigs on the wing"
5. Meddle
:Not entirely fond of most of it. One of These Days and Echoes are some of their best work ever, though.
6. Saucerful of Secrets
:Interesting album, I bought it at random not knowing what itd be like. I hated it at first, buts it grown on me and is very underated.
7. Atom Heart Mother
:Pink Floyd's first #1. If is great. Alans Psychedlic breakfast is pretty fun. Title track is not my favorite, but there are those whod disagree with me.

Those are the ones Ive heard all of. Ive heard a lot of songs offa Piper, and theyre quite good, Id rate them either between Animals and Meddle or Animals and Saucerful. See Emily Play is nice.
