You could always do it....with the ... illegal method. Which I do not advise you to do. Or you can buy it for like $200.

No, Vegas is for movie editing. Sound Forge is what you need. The full version is $299.96 but you can purchase a cut down version for $69.95 which'll see you right. Alternatively obtain the full version via bittorrent with a keygen.

Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) is a free multi-format sound editor. It's awesome. Got everything you need and more.
