Unfuckinreal, yet a cop who was arrested and is awaiting trial here in Ny was freed on his own recognicance( hope I spelled it right) for raping both his daughters over a period of 6 years. and you know he wont be doing no 35 fuckin years. I'm sure that Allens skin color had zero to do with his ridiculous sentence.

Makes me proud to live in North Carolina.
Thats probably one of the saddest things I have ever heard, I can't believe he was never pardoned. If I could I would give that guy ten minutes a lone with the jugde (who is probably dead) and a baseball bat. Then again he probably wouldn't do much considering he is not a violent guy....Thats kinda like that guy who got life in prison for drug possession. U.S. court system is so fucked up...

bottom line:dont break into peoples homes and steal their stuff.had he followed that simple strategy,he wouldn't have gone to prison in the first place.
now then:I will admit that the time he spent behind bars for stealing a tv is way excessive, but look at this this way,too
Mr Allen was denied parole 25 times because of poor behaviour, ..............so part of the reason he spent so much time is his own doings.

It's sad a man has spent half his life locked up for stealing a $100 TV. Did he try and appeal anything?

I wonder if there was more to the story...
For example, if that was his thrid strike in the typical "three strikes, you're out" type of law style. Had he done nothing prior to stealing the t.v., then his sentence is ridiculous. But if it was because he did some naughty things before that...

He was in there for 30 yrs the 3 strikes law wasn't even around in the US. I don't even think his state has the law to begin with....

Back to topic: I would like to know his past though.. If he was a thug then he deserved what he got...

He had been incarcerated before. And 47 infractions..... sounds like the media is hyping this, this guy should still be in jail if this is right.

No one deserves to be locked up that long for theft, especially for a bunch of electronics, that really aren't worth much.

Not even if they have 47 infractions, and prior convictions??

Infractions aren't really crimes. They're more like minor offenses, below misdemeanors even. For example parking where you shouldn't, or spitting on the sidewalk in some cities is an infraction. Here they probably mean he failed to do what prison guards told him to do and/or failed to follow some other minor prison rule.

I understand that much, and I agree that life is harsh, but this isnt an angel we're talking about. He's got prior convictions, and he's been reprimanded 47 times in prison. That's anything from what, Disobeying orders, to fighting or worse?
I looked through a few other lifers records who have been in more than 30 years and I didnt see anyone with more than 3 infractions. I don't think this guy deserves any sympathy at all, unless he actually doesnt have prior convictions.
No sympathy at all for violent offenders, especially when there are 250 thousand people in state prison for drug offenses.

You would probably be singing a different tune if you stole a TV and the judge tried to give you life in prison...Now of course I know you would NEVER steal a tv or anything like that. But some people's lives arnt as easy...
It would be like if you're talking in class, the teacher warns you once, warns you twice, and even warns you a third time. Then you talk again and you get exspelled from the school.
:insane: I don't understand how anyone living after the year 1800 could have possibly handed down that sentence, and I also don't understand how his case didn't hold up in appeals court.
:wtf: Having said that, this man is pretty dangerous, even at his old age. His last infraction occured in 2002, when he was over 60 y/o. I don't believe that he has been transformed into a "lamb" as he said in an earlier article.
I would like to hear what the judge/legal community has to say about such a sentence.

Actually, I've been in trouble with the law for shit worse than stealing a TV when I was young. After a good stay in a jail cell I decided hey.... that wasn't very fucking smart, and when I got back out, if I so much as heard people talking about doing illegal shit (other than drugs ;)) I was headed in the other direction.
I've got no problem with cutting someone some slack, but when this person doesnt learn from their first mistake, they're doomed to fuck up forever.
Also, I don't believe the shit about enviroments being bad and them having no choice but to get involved in crime, I grew up in a bad neighborhood, and though times were hard a lot of the time, you could always find work if you really wanted it.
As I said before, I'm not going to form my final opinion on this until his criminal history is revealed.

Well he should've had his hands cut off.. Atleast he wouldn't be in jail for 30 yrs and couldn't steal anymore...

Jeez, 35 years?! Most murderers and child rapists these days do only half that much.

ok remember that this happened in 1970 and he's black and had prior stuff on his record. The law changed to theft to a maximum of 3 years after he was already in jail. (off topic) what part of n.c. do you guys live in.
