Just when you thought the 9 year old who killed her friend would be the youngest murderer...

TAMPA, Florida (AP) -- A 7-year-old boy beat his baby half-sister to death with his fists, feet and a two-by-four because he was jealous of the attention the girl was receiving and because she would not stop crying, police said Wednesday.

The State Attorney's Office is deciding whether to file charges against the boy in an attack that rattled even veteran homicide detectives.

"The veteran detectives who worked on this case have never seen a case with someone as young as a 7-year-old show so much violence and so little remorse," Tampa police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said.

The attack occurred May 22 in Tampa, where the boy had been visiting his father. Seven-month-old Jayza Laney Simms was dead on arrival at the hospital where her parents rushed her.

The boy confessed to killing his sister a week later when detectives confronted him with the evidence, McElroy said.

The unidentified boy was not taken into custody and is living with his mother while prosecutors make their decision on whether to charge him.

Police said the father and his girlfriend were outside visiting with neighbors when the boy came to them about midnight on the night of the attack and told them the baby was "bleeding." They found the girl with a bloody nose and said she wasn't breathing.

The Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office did not immediately return telephone calls for comment Wednesday.

Seriously though, I think that when kids as young as seven begin killing it shows that either our society is getting really fucked up or that there are just worse parents out there. Im more inclined to think that something is up with the family in this case. This child most have witnessed or been a part of domestic violence to be able to beat his half-sister to death. Well at least thats the scenario that makes more sense.

The kid shows no remorse, so punishing him will likely only create a bitter, hardended criminal. HOw do you make someone who doesn't care understand what they did is horrific?

It's all relative, you and I might consider this a tragedy but to him it was nothing. I say we kill him.

But seriously I don't think its safe to have a kid grow up knowing "I killed someone, but I didn't get punished thanks to our wonderful legal system"

Its a tough call on what to do. If he gets punished yeah there is the possibility of him growing up to be a hardened criminal, but if he isn't punished he may grow up thinking its alright to kill someone.

This is a sad time. Funny, but when kids used to be encouraged to play with toy guns and bows and arrows 50 years ago, this crap wasn't anywhere near as common as our gun-hating ritalin-gulping discipline-devoid times.

Well, when dogs attack and kill people, they put them to sleep. If you can't fix the problem, what DO you do? I wouldn't want someone that can't be rehabilitated out on the streets. Just do the world a favor....in my opinion.

I really dont think murders are getting younger and younger, the media is just reporting them more and more. Like they said in Bowling for Columbine, the countries murder rate has decreased over the years, but coverage of them has gone up like a few hundred percent or sumtin like that.

What it is is one new station covers a murder of a really young child, and they get a lot of buzz from it. Then all the other stations see this and do what they can to find a younger one. Then a younger and younger, and soon the only murders you will see are by people who havent hit puberty yet. There will still be way more murders by adults, just no one will cover em anymore.

There are lots of people that won't kill. They allow others to live in peace.

There are others that will kill. They will not respect others' rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. (Most notably for this discussion, life)

I love philosophy, but mindless textbook drones with no concept of real life really piss me off.

YOu have two decisions, essentially:

1. Let the killers live. They kill others.

2. Kill the killers. Others are not killed.

Considering that one day the killers WILL be killed, either by a person defending themself(even though that is quickly becoming a crime, sigh), or by an LEO protecting the person or taking them down. Otherwise they'll go to prison, where likely they'll either get killed or continue to kill. The problem isn't that vague. In fact, it's basic logic, but I know some people have trouble with that. Same argument against gun control.

Basically, while some humans are a proud example of balance between emotion and instinct, we have to remember that our instincts are often the things keeping us alive. If we repress them completely, those that haven't will kill us.

I've read people's post on about MTV. Is MTV to cause for kids killing other people? I don't think so because I never see much voilence on that channel, I just see a bunch of songs for 14 year old that is love songs and a show with rich kids sharing one house bitching about silly things. I dunno. I could be wrong.

I think 9 times out of 10 people are joking about the MTV thing. I must say though that MTV has been making people more ignorant for a couple of decades now.

Violence on TV does not cause humans to be violent. There's violence on TV because humans are naturally violent and it keeps us entertained.
