I'm pretty sure Horse with no name is by the band America, not Neil Young. As for songs, I personally started with his new greatest hits album, which covers pretty much all of his best songs. I'd also buy After the gold rush, that's a fantastic album.

For individual songs, you should try
old man, down by the river, ohio, only love can break your heart, southern man, cinnamon girl, comes a time, needle and the damage done, philadelphia, rockin' in the free world

I love Neil Young. Hope this helps!

Yeah, Horse with No Name is by America. Anyway, Neil Young kicks ass. All those songs recommended by hoBodav are great. My favorites are Heart of Gold, Old Man, and the Needle and the Damage done.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, if you like Neil Young, you'll probably like Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.

I love Neil Young. Favourites are probably Hey hey, my my, RITFW, Needle and the damage done, Everyone knows this is no where and Cowgirl in the sand.

C,S,N and Young are also worth a listen. I'd recommend Ohio, Find the cost of freedom and Deja Vu. They are a good group, i've got some Cosby, Stills and Nash, but i much prefer the stuff they did with Neil.

Also for people looking to get into Neil Young i'd probably suggest finding the album he did with Pearl Jam (Mirrorball), its good... not his best but for people new to Neil Young its probably a good starting point.

Oh, try to steer clear of some of Young's ponderously bad solo's. Great song writer but he shoulda stuck to that because some of the solo's he himself played rather than Crazy Horse are awful. OH! and also stay the fuck away from Transformer man (anyone who's heard it knows why :D ) Young didn't work all the great with synth shit.

I have long stated that Neil Young is a King of Rock and Roll. Sure, you can't take the crown from Elvis but Neil is right there with him in terms of artistic merit and survival. He still makes great albums. The Greendale concept album released a few years ago was brilliant! The tour was great too. All the baby boomers were out in the bathroom smoking pot whining about him not playing old stuff. What a bunch of regressive close minded retreads! They missed a brilliant performance. Not just Neil but the actresses and actors who were playing the Greendale characters. It was rock and roll broadway! And then he had to appease the baby boomers by closing with some old stuff which I had no problem with. Like A Hurricane, Pocahontas, and a few others.

As someone else said, I got hooked by his greatest hits album. Cowgirl in the Sand is my favorite song, but the others are brilliant, too.
