Fans, are you aware of the new album coming soon titled Ghost Reveries? The band hopes to release this album by the end of August and they've released the tracklisting just recently at their website.

I think "Deliverance" is their best song overall. It clocks is at over 13 minutes but never seems to get boring.

The riffs suffered a little with Deliverance and Damnation, but Damnation didn't allow the same riffage as their other releases. Deliverance had the drums as the driving force this time around, I think... It's constantly switching up and there are tons of fills. It's awesome.

They rehash theirs riffs like no others; they don't even change most of theirs riffs when the vocalist comes in. I don't know why their vocalist tries to sing and get all brooding, because it completely throws off theier songs into what I call the "even shittier phase."

If you do happen to like Opeth for some shitty reason, try listening to Bloodbath. Same vocalist, better genre.

Now I'm going to go listen to some real metal.

I've heard odds and ends of Opeth songs, from albums Damnation, Deliverance and My Arms are Your Hearse, and I have just never found anything to be so Ground-Breaking about this genre. Theres many bands that I'm sure you have heard that people seem to herald as being one of the best of a genre, then come off sounding exactly like other. I think I'd be allowed to say that their boring, since it is my opinion. This whole board is opinions, you'll never find information about a band that is not based on an opinion. But I'll leave Opeth alone for now, if that will make everyone happy.

I also listen to some other styles of music other than Metal. I have a wide variety, ranging from Classical to Jazz being the other two styles I mainly listen to. I also like several bands considered not to be true Metal (Tool, KsE, Unearth etc), but I tend to try and get people more involved in a metal scene. I kinda come off a bit agressive to people in my styles of music, and it's very opinionated.

But SlayerReyals; theres not a chance Opeth is better than Death IMO. There would be no Opeth if it was not for Death. Their music was one of the most inspiring and technically amazing death metal bands ever seen.

Yeah some people find that Chucks Voc's are a bit too harsh. Theres a big change in his voice though from earlier releases from Scream Bloody Gore to the last Sounds of Preseverance. Some people really like it, others find it too high.

Hmm, Slayer over Death is a tough one. It's a close call both bands are really amazing. Except for the fact that Slayer's last few (God Hates Us All, Diabolus In Musica) have been gross lol. Haunting the Chapel and Hell Awaits were my favorite albums.

Man i hate those tr00 and kvlt metal pricks. First of all, they only listen to metal which is really stupid coz theres other good genres of music and when you talk to them aboiut other bands they laugh at you and have a bitch fit. Secondly theres a reason why alot of tr00 underground bands are not famous, coz they are shit in the first place. Ive heard a few opeth songs and IMO its pretty shit, too slow and drags on for too long without much punch to it, but i can tell they are talented in their own way.

Read the name: its Metallic, not Metallica. Metallic is something entirely different. But Metallica were something highly groundbreaking for their time and genre. Just don't listed to anything after And Justice for All....

I also listen to a lot of metal, ranging from Killswitch Engage, to Immolation, to Death, to Korpiklaani, to Mekong Delta, to Destroyer 666 etc etc. As well as that I listen to Jazz and Classical, some rap (well very little), and blues. I have said I'll stop being a prick about Opeth, because I recognize that people do like them, and theres no way I'm going to win this argument.

As for Opeth being an aquired taste, I don't feel like it is. Death is an aquired taste, or Vio-Lence is an aquired taste, but Opeth is fairly easy to get into. I just like other music, but I'll stop the negative feedback here.

And about opeth being an aquired taste, I definatly think so. Only people who like opeth can enjoy bands like dream theatre and tool etc. One thing that turns me off are the damn 10 min songs that don't really go anywhere.
The only 10 min songs i enjoy are darkthrone stuff and some enslaved stuff and meshuggahs 20 min song. They have good riffs straight after one and another and doesnt get boring.
