[Big News] Eminem Done Rapping

DETROIT (Reuters) - Rap superstar Eminem plans to make his last solo performance in Ireland in September, the Detroit Free Press, his hometown newspaper, said on Friday.


Citing sources close to the 33-year-old rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, the daily also said his current album "Encore" would probably be his last as he moves to full-time work as a record producer.

The final solo appearance of Mathers, the best-selling hip-hop artist ever, would be at a concert in Dublin, Ireland, on Sept. 17, the Free Press said.

The newspaper quoted his manager, Paul Rosenberg, as saying no official decision had been made about the future of the Grammy and Oscar-winning artist who has recorded three top-10 albums.

But Rosenberg said Mathers' current multi-platinum album was "certainly the cap on this part of his career."

Mathers' spokesman at Interscope Records in Los Angeles could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Free Press said the rapper, who has sold more than $1 billion worth of records, has grown weary of the media spotlight and may be musically spent.

"Marshall feels he's said everything he can say as Eminem," one insider was quoted as saying. "The idea that he intended this ("Encore") to be his last record is something that everyone on the inside circle has known for a while."

Another source said "Encore," which was released last year, had been an especially difficult record for the artist to make. "Marshall really struggles to write for himself now, to speak through the voice of Eminem," the source said.

"He knows as well as anybody that there comes a point where you risk beating this thing to death."

The cover shot on "Encore" shows Mathers taking a bow, and its closing song is entitled "Curtains Down."

In the album's liner notes, and in his current concert tour, Mathers has also played up the figurative death of Eminem.

"This is how you go out with a bang, baby," Mathers says in one video," after pulling the trigger of a pistol that misfires on himself.

I think just about every artist in the world loves to play in Ireland. I've heard so many from so many different genre's say they love to play there, never heard anything bad about it.

And this isn't surprising at all, he said when he made The Eminem Show that it was probably going to be his last album and he may do one more, he further explained that he wanted to spend his time producing and working on Shady Records.

Encore is a horrible album to retire on for such a great MC.

I agree with him leaving. He says he has nothing left to say, and he is right. Why was MMLP such an amazing album? Becuase he truly had something he wanted to say. He had a message that he wanted to get out, he had things he needed to get off his chest, and that combined with his amazing wordplay talent turned into the best album of the year, and one of the best of all time. After MMLP, and after he said what he really needed to, all he had left was his word play skills. Sure he could still rhyme better then anyone else in the game, but he had nothing to rhyme about. He started rapping about the same shit over and over again, and was making controversy just so he could rap about it. The American goverment and parents HATED him when MMLP came out, and that hate is what fueled his album. Then the parents got over him, and he had nothing left. He tried to hold onto this idea that the goverment is out to destroy him, even if they werent any longer (look at White America, its a good song, but was the goverment still on him at that point? no).

He became famous because he rapped about his life, and nothing more. Can you think of any other artist, musician or actor or anything, in which you know more about by just listening to their works? You know all about Em's mom, his wife, his daughter, his high school growing up, you know everything about him. Thats why he was so popular, because he invited you into his life. But after SSLP and MMLP, there was nothing left to tell, and thats where he began to slip.

Yeah, i would really like one more album, something where he can say he left the business with a great cd, but i dont think it can be done. He truly has nothing left to rap about, at least not in the time being. Im sure he will release another album some day, but not for quite a few years. Till then, we are just gonna here him making appearences on shitty ass 50 cent songs.

By one of im not saying top 10 or anything, but MMLP is definately one of the greats. For rhyming skills it is one of the best (clearly thats where most if not all of his skill lies), and the amount of passion he poured into damn near every one of those songs in amazing.

And yeah, infinite wasnt that great. The song infinite showed some pretty fucking insane rhymes, but the album wasnt too good. He just seemed to immature in it, trying to make himself sound much better then he was. He even said Infinite was him "trying to discover who he was", and he realized after if was released that that wasnt him.

You think MMLP was better than Infinite? MMLP had the song "Real Slim Shady" fopr god's sake! Infinite was pure lyrical genius. But then again you think Tupac is the greatest poet of all time so your opinion doesn't mean much to me.

Most mediocre underground rap is brag rap.. and if it's done right and with some wit it can still be good lyricism, but this is not the case with Infinite. And I do not think all underground rap is brag rap.. hell look at Del, MF Doom, Sage Francis, Atmosphere, and plenty of others. As for saying "that's just hip hop," you may settle for mediocre hip hop but I refuse when there's plenty of good shit to listen to.

Eminem is NOT retiring and Yahoo/CNN and ALL the networks that reported this were WRONG. I haven't found it on MTV.com yet but all day John Norris has been reporting on the MTV network that all the rumors flying about Eminem retiring after Anger Management III are FALSE. They contacted an Interscope source who is close with Eminem and they flat out denied the possibility of Eminem retiring yet.
