Yeah my dumbass friends repedietly called a house at like 4 am and hung up. I got a nice message on my phone from the people they called saying they phoned the police and I'll have to deal with them now. Now I hear if you keep your phone off then they cant track you. But they obviously already have my number. So could they go through the directory or what? And is it really a big deal, will they even care (It was probably about 7 calls one after another). Help for love? :)

I would gauge how much shit your in this way.
Do you live in a place where police have nothing better to do than prosecute prank calls? Or are they too busy with real crimes. Believe me, im #1 i got 13 months probation because my town has no real crime so i got sent to juvy court for nothing.

they can still track the phone, to be sure take the battery OUT, or put the phone with the battery still in, into a potatoe chip bag so it has no signal...
2) ur mot fucked...tell them a drunk friend borrowed the phone

Small town barely any shit but alot of drug arrests lately. My buddy got a years probation for egging, didnt even have a record. How long did it take for the police to contact you? Because i was caught prank calling once when i was like 12 and the police phoned my buddys house within the hour. Its been 3 days.

Im not as worried as them tracking my phone like that because they already have the number...assuming the people that phoned the police reported my number (obviously). The police could just call the phone company and get all my info. Or could they? Im really dumb on this subject.
I could care less a little talking but if i have to pay a fine im gonna shit my pants cause im broke lately.

Well heres even better news. All cell phones within the last liek 4 years all have a GPSchip in them. And you can turn this chip on and off. But its exsculively for 911 services if its on. And yea umm. To track a cell phone it costs a shit load of money. But if they have ur num they dont need to track it.

You're talking a load of rubbish. Not all phones built in the past 4 years have GPS, if they do, it's an extra function. To track on where the phone is, comes down to the phone towers, nothing about your phone picking up a signal from an over head satellite!
The phone company tracks and keeps records of all calls, SMSs MMSs etc… from where and to whom. Even if you try to with hold your number. The cops etc can request for these records.
It all comes down to, do the cops think its harassment. If they do, they will go forward with it at some point. If not, then it’s dropped and up to the ‘victims’ to keep pushing for something to be done.
If nothing happens within a month, I’d say you got away with it this time!
But the best thing you can do, is do it on one your friends phones, they get caught instead!

Sam42004 is actually right, it's call e911. It's for police to track your location when 911 is dialed from a cell phone.
If you don't believe me Check this out (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=e911+cell+tracking&btnG=Search)

Yes I know, but it's not true GPS... they just call it that. But yes, you can buy phones that have true GPS.
As in Britian it's possible to make up a 3D picture of people in buildings etc, without them even having a phone, but it's done using the phone towers!
do a search on GPS (http://www.consumerreports.org/main/content/display_report.jsp?WebLogicSession=Qt6UBd52FIqfBVI h7MEq4g1NGZnqu97X5W72piozgF0OiCIP1yO0|-2436601714097521246/169937912/6/7005/7005/7002/7002/7005/-1|-3548973475032896312/169937913/6/7005/7005/7002/7002/7005/-1&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=378647&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=333133&bmUID=1121883141771)
