In the FIBA Under-21 World Championships in Basketball.

Canada defeated the USA 93-90 in overtime in the quarterfinal round, setting the United States' record back to 5-1.

Levon Kendall had 40 points for the Canucks (3-3).

Of all the countries to lose to, we'll never live this down. :D

You guys think we suck at basketball but basketball is getting so popular here it's unbelieveable, I heard somewhere that it just might take over hockey in Canada. Levon Kendall is our best player, he plays for The University of Pittsburgh. I had a chance to watch him play when the Canadian Under 21 National Team came to my city, we womped Team Brazil that game by the way:).

Think you'll have nukes in 15 years to?

Please, Canada is just like any european country when it comes to basketball.

Steve Nash-Canada, Allstar

Dirk Nowitzki-Germany All star

Jamaal Magloire-Canada All star

Peja Stojakovic-Bosnia & Herizgobina or whatever All star

Congrats, like 2 all stars from canada and 2 all stars from Europe.

Jason Kapono(2nd round pick by Cleveland, UCLA product) said it best. "Man, all I have to do is grow a beard, move over to eastern europe, shoot a few jumpers, change my name to jason kaponovich and I'll be a top 5 pick"

As much as Im a fan of european basketball especially in the olympics, their products don't compete with the greatness of the NBA. they just dont cut it here, to big of environment.

Yeah those, same european teams you're talking shit about swept the floor with Team USA at the Athens Olympics, you may remember, Jasikevicus hit the 3 pointer plus the foul to give Lithuania the lead with 1 minute left. The supposedly "unbeatable" USA team lost to Lithuania that game,

Haha, I still get chills down my spine when I see the clip of Jasikevicus hitting the 3 pointer plus the foul then starring down Lamar Odom. He could easily play in the NBA and be an all-star there.

Hell i knew we werent goin to win a gold.- you aint gonna win when you have 0 shooters, who USA had none. 0 assist men, who USA had none. I guess you could make a point for marbury, but hes still a shoot first pass second pg.

oh well. that was the first time we lost in 3 olympic games, not like we'll be able to win em again.

oh and its kidna hard to mesh a team in a months time and expect em to do good against teams that have been playin together for years

You could have all the best players from the USA play against any team and lose because when you have all MVP's training on the same team it's pretty hard to have each super ego play as a team......its all about teamwork and they need more time...even with enough time they still would never play as good as they should because they all want to be the best

Seeing pro's in the olympic sports is not cool.....the Olympics fell into making this sporting event with putting in professionals for the sole purpose of $$$$$$$. It sucks to see basketball and other sports like hockey having professionals ...it should be definitely college athletes it destroys the purpose of the Olympics....If the USA had college players on the team I bet they would beat the current team USA because they would actually play as a team and not be fully corrupted by agents and the $$$$ like soo many NBA/Hockey players are today ...it's a shame :(

What the hell Kapono is saying? Just because he adds a "vich" to his name doesn't mean that he becomes a top 5 pick.. He'd first have to prove his worth in the Euroleague or any other professional basketball league in Europe, then he'd have to earn a spot in the national team, score 20 or more points a game (or at least show great potential), before he can be a top 5 pick. NBA scouts are not dumb. Just because a player's name sounds Greek or Serbian to us doesn't mean he instantly deserves to be drafted in the first round!

On second thought, NBA scouts can also be dumb when it comes to picking real talent. Remember Nowitzki, Kirilenko, Ginobili, et al. - all selected in the late first round or in the second round...

Yeah its hard when you got 4 15 ppg scorers with you. Amare stoudemires a beast, if it wasnt for him, Nash wouldnt of won MVP. Now outside of Nash's pathetic defense, his inability to play a full quarter, he is no where near the top of the league in terms of valuabliity. Look, Andre Miller had similar stats back in 2002 with CLE avging double digit assists. Did he deserve some MVP love? no, but he managed to do that with who? Ricky Davis? No Lebron James. Outside of Phoenix winning a whoopty do what, 60 games, nash wasn't all that great.

Tim Duncan got robbed, again. Outside of 2003 when KG got MVP, TD woulda been a 4 time MVP, which he shoulda been MVP this year.

Nice try canada, but 1 player undeservingly so gets an MVP, does not make your country better then ours, nor does it say your catching us. You, and the rest of the world are still levels below us in terms of talent.

What I'm saying is you guys wouldn't even be top 5 if it weren't for us.(And there's the fact that we're improving ALOT.)

And your list is terribly wrong....

USA
Argentina
Serbia and Montenegro
Lithuania
Croatia or France or Brazil

That's how it is.......

Oh, and Canada is very underrated in basketball. Do you remember the Sydney olympics? Here are some standings to refresh your memory....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OLYMPIC MENS BASKETBALL STANDINGS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GROUP A
-------

United States 5 0
Italy 3 2
Lithuania 3 2
France 2 3
China 2 3
New Zealand 0 5

GROUP B
-------
W L
- -
Canada 4 1
Yugoslavia 4 1
Australia 3 2
Russia 3 2
Spain 1 4
Angola 0 5

That's right, Canada placed first in Division B, dont believe me?

http://espn.go.com/oly/summer00/standings/menbasket.html

Canada's schedule:

Canada 101 Australia 90
Canada 99 Angola 54
Canada 91 Spain 77
Russia 77 Canada 59
Canada 83 Yugoslavia 75

That's right, we beat powerhouse teams like Yugoslavia,Spain and Australia.

Btw, since when is France a legitimate powerhouse in basketball?? outside of that mikael pitkachu or whatever that plays for Golden State...France sucks. Theyre no good.

I must be missing something. Croatia? Who are they?

and brazil sucks to. this isnt soccer. i have no idea where those 3 countries come into play in terms of great basketball teams.

and Spain is pretty damn good.

France: they have quite a few players in the NBA (Tony Parker being one)

Croatia: You know? Croatia? The same team that played USA in the 1992 olympic finals.

Brazil: They have very good basketball down there (They have Nene, Anderson Varejao and Leandrinho Barbosa. And they have alot of good players that play in european leagues.)
