They just trade for high-profile and high paid players. Their only homegrown player that is any good right now is Robinson Canoe who was probably originaly brought up as a PR move. You can never buy a championship. Just buying big names will result in two things, big names with great power and "blowouts or shutouts". You need a balance between good power and good contact hitter and good fielders along with sold pitching in staring, relief, and closing.

The Yankees have solide power and solid contact. They have a good bullpen and outstanding closing. They need help with starting and Steinbrenner needs to learn that he has to develop young starters rather than just buy old guys, who may still be fantastic but theyre still old, or get injury prone players or fill ins for those injury prone players. It might be quick fixes but you wont have another 1996-2001 run unless you start developing people like robinson cano. Jeter, Cano, Williams, Posada, and Rivera (note 4/5 are dynasty players) are perfect examples of everything right with the Yankees. Guys like Jaret Wright and Al Leiter are perfect examples of whats wrong.
