While agree with you, I think it's silly to think that Bush does not care about black people. He has more black people on his staff than any other president, and he also initiated several HIV assistance in Africa. Granted the methodolgy might not have been effective, but at least it shows...carring.

Oh, and he was the one who wanted to make the evacuation MANDATORY. Before that, all evacuations were voluntary. You wouldn't call up the governor with a demand like that if you didn't care.

First, President Bush did not call the governor with an "demand" that mandatory evacuations be ordered. From the New Orleans Times-Picayune:

"The governor also said that President Bush had telephoned shortly before the 9:30 a.m. press conference began. She said Bush said he was “very concerned about the storm’s impact” and urged Blanco and Nagin to order the evacuation."

Urged. She was the one that ordered it.

Second, no one doubts that Bush was "concerned about the storm's impact" before the event. It was the response after the event that many people believe to be less than adequate. Colin Powell today even criticized the response, while at the same time stating that he did not believe race to be a factor. From the Washington Post:

"'I think there have been a lot of failures at a lot of levels _ local, state and federal. There was more than enough warning over time about the dangers to New Orleans. Not enough was done,' Powell told ABC News' Barbara Walters in an interview to be aired Friday night."

While I don't think race was a factor either, I don't know anyone that with a straight face can say that the response of the Federal Government and the Bush administration was adequate. It wasn't.

What I think is truly "sad" as you put it about these political times is the fact that we have a President that is either unable or unwilling to ever acknowledge that something has gone wrong, and that, yes, as head of the executive branch, he is ultimately responsible. What ever happened to, "The Buck Stops Here?"

Few facts for everyone... Bush called the mayor or whoever in charge down there before the hurricane and asked several times to evacuate the area but they thought it wasn't going to happen. First of all, it was cheap to repost only part of what I had written as to attempt to make me seem less reasonable so that you could try to make an, albeit misguided, political point.

Second of all, learn to spell before you complain about the intelligence of another. Read carefully, here is how you spell the following words:
(1) Louisiana
(2) governor
(3) mandatory
(4) government

Third, George Bush as chief of the executive branch is ultimately responsible for FEMA. As you probably don't know what FEMA stands for, it means Federal Emergency Management Agency. They are the agency of the Federal Government tasked with disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery planning. Got that? During a natural disaster, they would be the agency of the Federal Government that was supposed to make sure that, after the disaster, as many people are helped as possible. They did not do their job very well. Accordingly, Bush, as he is responsible for FEMA, is ultimately responsible for the poor response by FEMA.

Fourth, what is my problem? Well, one problem of mine would be an ineffective chief executive who is unwilling to admit responsibility for his mistakes.

Finally, instead of attacking those who criticize the President, how about responding to the substance of their complaints? How about you tell me whether you thought that the response of FEMA was adequate? Or, if it was not, how Bush is not ultimately responsible for the inadequate response?
