Is it possible to Convert a 6 string electric guitar into a 4 string bass. Some one said that you just have to remove 2 strings and tune the last 4 really low and you can use it as a makeshift bass. Any one have some more info on how to do this (if it even is possible)
I was rocking on my friends, snaped a wire, and now its just a guitar with five strings...not a bass
I dont really know but I would think you could buy some bass wire and put that on if you just needed a makeshift one

Michael Anthony got a used electric guitar and took the high e and B string off. If you really want to do this, You would probably want to space the E and A strings out more than the D and G. It is possible, but the pick ups are different.... I think.

I think it would be possible but insanely difficult to play, especially with your fingers, ask a guitar forum though...

no, that's a bad idea. the pickups, the scale of the neck and the size of the frets, even the way the guitar is built is different. you would need way thicker gauge strings in order to get any sound out of it. tuning a regular e string down an octave would make it so loose that you couldnt play on it, and putting bass gauge strings on a regular guitar would warp and twist the neck, so it wouldnt last long. also, the way a guitar is built, you would probably have to replace the bridge, nut, and tuners, and drill holes through your guitar if its string-thru. IF you did all that, and put bass strings on it, it might sound somewhat like a bass, but it wouldnt be one, and a bass player probably wouldn't be able to play it because of all the differences. no matter what you do to it, it will still be a guitar and if you try to make a bass out of it there are bound to be problems that you couldnt predict.
you're better off just buying a bass. :insane:
