Right now I have an acoustic guitar which is a small scale guitar, so it's kinda...well, small. I got it when I was like 10 for Christmas but I never really learned to play it. Well I picked it back up about a month ago (I'm 17 now) and I really enjoy learning how to play.

What I want to do is trade this one in (even though this one is a great sounding guitar) and get an electric guitar instead. I think I can get a pretty good bit for it considering it is a Taylor guitar. I have no idea why my dad got me such a nice guitar at that age. I would just like some reccomendations on some good brands and models that don't cost a whole lot. It's going to be mainly for just playing around and for friends and not for audiences or recordings. Recommensations on an amp would be appreciated as well. Just need a good starting ground for researching for a guitar.

Thanks to anyone for suggestions. :bang:

almost every brand of electric guitar offers some kind of starter pack that comes with everything you need, including a tuner, amp, and extra strings. you can find them at any guitar store, and a lot of music stores. you're better off looking for a fender or a peavey to start because they are cheap and play decently. usually the pack can come for around $100 bucks. if you're looking for a cheap amp too, there should be plenty of 15 watt tube amps that have more than enough power than you need for what you're doing. crate is a good brand for amps but they might be more expensive.

if you are planning on spending a little bit more money on a nice guitar ($300-500) then you should play it for a while before you buy, because nobody can tell you which guitar to buy other than yourself.

totally right dude if you plan to make this a life long thing plan to get a good guitar. my advice to you is to go to different music stores and try different guitar and amp combos find the one that suits you and buy that one. music is feeling and emotion so whatever sound makes you feel then you should get that.
