i'll admit i bought the dookie album back in 1994 which i then discovered their late 80's stuff, which i still like. however they now suck, they've not gotten out of the fucking 4 chord 15 year old just starting about style. you'd think after ALL these years they'd be able to make a more intricant punk song, and the political message sucks, if your gonna make one go all out like NOFX did.

i hate the fact that people consider them hardcore punk when ALL their music is just tame with slow four chord songs. What really has me mad though is just how much they sold out, THEY EVEN HAVE THOSE FREAKING LIVESTRONG BRACLETS, real punk doesn't sell out, they however did and it's not that either, their music blows too, boulevard of broken shit is not a talent demanding songs, especially for you people that play guitar.

now i would like to ask you guys how much you hate them.

There are already many fucking threads about how much Green Gay sucks, so this thing is pointless. They suck anyway. Although, they are way better than most of the mainstream crap.

To be fair, they're not even playing full chords. They're playing chords which require the use of 3 strings, two if you're lucky.

They suck. When they played @ Giants stadium they stayed @ the Sheraton Hotel across the street. I work next door to the Hotel. When they pulled up to the Hotel, & got out, there were some fans waiting for them to get an autotgraph or pic...whatever. They just walked passed their "fans" w/out even acknowledging them.

bad fan appreciation if you ask me.

Intricant punk song? What is that one of those contradiction things like "jumbo shrimp"? It's been well established that Green Day is no longer making punk rock, so why must American Idiot's punk credibility be questioned if it doesn't even exist. and the political message sucks, if your gonna make one go all out like NOFX did.
NOFX is a crappy cover band with 100000000 songs, none of which are very punk or "all out".

I'll agree with you there. I also hate people who consider them punk. Believe it or not, there are people like me who enjoy Green Day and don't think they have been punk for a while.

Once again, they aren't real punks so selling out and ruining their punk cred is not a factor. I agree that Boulevard is a piece of shit, but I have never (before you) heard anyone call it a punk song.

yep i agree i do like there old stuff better luv international superhits but there stuff now isnt horriable, they arnt punk, there more pop than punk and there good at being a pop-punk band punk is just tha genre they fitted in back in tha day and now to tha teeny boppers who listen to the radio and here these new rock songs think everyone is punk people call fucking ashley simpson and avril livr-howevertha fuck u spell her name,punk people jus dont understand tha meaning of it anymore ....and blvd of broken dreams is ok so is there political messages and shyt i dont know why people are going so crazy....

I like all of Green Day's music. Including American Idiot, but I also love Kerplunk, Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, Warning, Shenanigans, 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. I don't even care if they sold out, I still think they're a good band. They're music is undeniably catchy, and even though all their songs consist of is power-chords, they pull it off well.

call me a hyprocryte but the thing that i hate about american idoit is how much the radio plays all of their songs. i liked american idiot (first single) and that wasn't overplayed so its still an ok song. Boulevard was the most unbelievebly overplayed rock song ever (exageration but..) so im completely sick of that song. Holiday had a really good fast beat and i was really into that song and it got semi-overplayed for a few months and now its an ok song. and now with their fourth single wake me up when september ends its being oveplayed on ever station so im starting to get sick of that song too.

The same thing was said about them every time a new album came out, and when another one came to replace it, the previously hated one became classic along with the others. They're old, they've been making CDs for a long time, and people change over time. I'm sure you'd rather have them just sound exactly the same on every song for 10 CDs, but you cant do that. Only your shitty "underground" "hardcore" bands that release one or two shitty CDs can do that.

Where was the option for you like them, period?

EDIT: They are by no means the best band in the world, or any sort of ridiculous comment like that. They are good, they've got it down, you either like them or you dont. If you don't like them, stop rubbing your boner and posting about how much you hate them, and listen to what you like instead.

You said that Greenday is the best band because a lot of people agree they have a "good" sound, and they don't worry about writting complicated songs. That is the same thing NSYNC did. Just because it is popular, doesn't mean it is good.

I like Green Day and they’ve been my favourite band since 1998. I know that they’re not the greatest band in the world in terms of deep lyrics or complex music, but that doesn’t bother me. I like them because I enjoy their music and because I had a great time at a concert. I don’t give a fuck if they’re ‘punk’ or ‘not punk’ or sell-outs or whatever. Who cares? I hate it when people try to attach some sort of responsibility to entertainers, like they’re supposed to stay true to something or some ideological bullshit like that. It’s JUST music. Get over it. If you like it, fine. If not, fine.

Are you pissed off at a band because they get more airplay than a band that you like or that the radio even plays their song at all? Guess what? It’s not the bands fault. It’s the radio station’s and the people that listen to it.

And who gives a fuck if they only play 2 and a half-chords or whatever? What, do you subscribe to a philosophy that “all songs must have complex guitar solos and a minimum of ninety-eight chords”?
I admit that I don't like certian kinds of music, but that doesn't mean that I want the people who make that music to all die or something stupid like that.

You know what, Im not even gonna argue this anymore... I like Green Day, I'll keep listening to their music.. They've been the most "Successful" Band over the last year.. They are the most successful band in the world on this date Sept 19th 2005.. (by the way American Idiot Released Sept 21st last year) And when I wake up tomorrow, they will still be the top band in the world, and the day after that, and the day after that.. That puts a big smile on my face, knowing that they have the top spot over any band you like, and will continue to have it for some time now.. So you can go nibble on your boyfriends foreskin..
