View Full Version : Should people give Kiss a second chance?

I never hated Kiss, but I had always passed them off as a lame glam band. Recently, I got hold of their Greatest Hits CD and a few random Kiss songs. In other words, for once, I could hear the basswork on I Was Made For Loving You Baby since it wasn't crappy radio quality with non existent bass. I must say, I like their Greatest Hits.
Vocal wise, they seem pretty average, not bad but nothing special either.
Bass wise, geez, Gene Simmons is a good bassist - not amazing, but he's pretty good. I want to hear more Kiss before I judge the guitarwork. Some people say Ace Frehley sucks, some say he's good. I want to hear more first. Drumming wise, I heard that Carr Jam song of theirs on the Revenge album, and shit that's a nice drum solo.
So all make up and jokes aside, maybe people should give Kiss a second chance. I know Gene Simmons himself, said that Kiss focussed more on theatrics than actually writing good music. But then again, he also thinks of himself as a crap bassist.
I've only heard a little bit of Kiss, and from the looks of their catalogue, they must have released a hell of a lot of crap as well as the odd good song. So does anyone have any opinions on them? Is anyone a fan ?

Kiss were my favourite band when i was like 5-9. I loved them so much. Now they're just a band that I listen to.

i like them. I only got their greatest hits but theres tonnes of good songs there. Lets rock and roll all night and party every day! Its great party music.

Kiss is fun. To me, it wasn't about the makeup and the theatrics. I really liked their songs. They have always been one of my favorite groups, I don't really dig their later stuff though. They call me...Dr. Love, they call me dr. love! lol

Kiss for me isnt really a band to truly listen to like I would with another band, for me they are more of an experience, just kind of a loud, theatrical fun thing that always seemed less about the music, but it can still be appriciated for that

there's no doubt that theyre a good band, but more than anything theyre a great show. some of their stuff rocks too, like god of thunder (live)

Kiss is so terribly overrated. I don't understand why they are so popular. Their music isn't really even that good, IMO.

You should get the Love Gun album. Totally kickass. Instrumentally, the whole band was just about average, but they could write some pretty kickass rock songs and put on a monster show. Favorite Kiss song has to be Detroit Rock City or Love Gun.

Kiss are the ultimate party band. Put on a Kiss record at any sort of gathering after the alcohol has been flowing for a while and even the straightest of girls will suddenly come over all sleazy.
And that's gotta be worth another comeback.

kiss is wayyyyy overrated... and i dont like the fact that you see gene simmons on tv giving advice about stuff like he's some kind of dr.
I hate their whole "image" and all the gimmicks and merchandise they have. BUT I still like the music. Too many people say they hate Kiss because they're faces are fucking everywhere and Gene Simmons does all this silly shit on TV, but have you ever given their MUSIC a chance? Music wise, they're right up there with any other classic rock band.

I use to be really addicted to KISS after my dad brought me to their concert a couple years back with Aerosmith, i listened to them non stop for like 3 months after than and baught their new at the time Kiss Symthony(can't spell sorry) DvD which i liked ALOT, and i would recommend everybody who likes kiss, its a must have. Now, kiss is just a band i listen too, nothing special, their good, but theres better.

KISS are amazing, and while hardly the most revolutionary metal band every, they did create the spark that later became the engine for virtually the entire 80s rock scene.
I'm not a big fan of Rock and Roll All Nite or Detroit Rock City (their two biggest songs), but damn do they have a lot of great tunes. Strutter, Deuce, God of Thunder, Shout it Out Loud, and I Was Made for Loving You are all amazing songs. And while many people like to disregard this era of KISS, the 80s and early 90s also had some great music too. Creatures of the Night, Lick It Up, Heaven's on Fire, Tears are Falling, Thrills in the Night, Reason to Live, and Forever are some of the most underrated songs of the 1980s.
If you are wanting to get into KISS, I suggest picking up The Very Best of KISS and the 20th Century Masters 80s KISS. If you want a more complete, yet somewhat exhausting, retrospect repleace The Very Best of KISS with the Gold 2CD KISS.

There are tons of great bands where someone in the band wears makeup. I ocassionally wear eyeliner when I play, that does not make me a fag. That makes you close minded and old. Your stupid. The make up they got arnt even feminine at all. You dont see girls wearing face paint like them. Its just like a clown wearing face paint. You wouldnt think hes gay too?
