Theme Song Selection and Singers
Read that a total of 573 entries were received by the SOWSG Committee to be selected as the 2007 Special Olympics Theme Song.
After polls on websites and votes cast by school and residents, the official theme song was to be: “The World Has You and Me” (Lyrics: Qian Wujie; Music: Hao Yonggang) ø Sun Nam from China and Ho Yeow Sun from Singapore will be singing the theme song. ø Will it be sung in English or Chinese? |

Yes, you are quite right. The Chinese song “The World Has You and Me” WAS supposed to be the Special Olympic Games theme song.
It was announced to the world on the official site on 11 August 2007. Read this article: http://www.2007specialolympics.com/W...il.aspx?id=861. It says “… for the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games, three songs are chosen as finalists and one becomes the official theme song… One Theme Song “The World Has You and Me” (Lyrics: Qian Wujie; Music: Hao Yonggang).” Apparently, it was reported that the search is going to continue now that Grammys artist Quincy Jones has joined in the production team of the theme song. Read: http://en.beijing2008.cn/culture/cer...14078135.shtml. Quoting from the article, it says that “Jiang also stressed that BOCOG would continue its public search for the theme song of the Beijing Games.” Has the Special Olympic committee changed their mind? After an elaborated search for lyricist, composers, music submissions and experts to select the songs out of 573 entries over 5 months, with a report that Quincy Jones has joined the team and the search is going to continue, what are they trying to imply? With all due respect to Mr Jones, having been nominated for 77 Grammy awards in the 60 years of his career, is the Special Olympic Games committee trying to deny the efforts and work that all others have pumped in since September 2006? Well, if their efforts cannot make it to the world stage, at least an explanation would suffice? |
