need some help in making background transparent

i was sent an animated av to modify so it would fit on another message board with their size restrictions

when it was sent to me it had a transparent background. when I opened it using avd video processor the background became black

I have a few other av editors and i cant get a transparent background...

can anyone direct me to a surefire way to do this?
