Need help buying a laptop.

Moving into a dorm next week, need a laptop.

Anything from 800-1300$.

Has to have:

AMD processor

1024 RAM

atleast 80 GB

atleast 1.8 GHZ

And a decent video card that is not integrated.

If you don't know what im talking about, don't even bother posting.

I want one that can support gaming, but I do not want a hardcore gaming laptop.

If anyone knows any good deals for laptops, let me know ASAP.

laptops suck, trust me. PCs are so much better in terms of performance and cost. I owned and used both. Dont waste money on them.

Some dorms require that you have a laptop. Besides, he is going to college... he may have to bring his laptop to class.

Yes PC's are better.. but my dorm is small enough as it is.

Someone told me "Nice buy, you should check if you can get the hard drive upgraded to a 7200 rpm, 5400 could be a bottleneck."

What do you guys think of that?

If you can upgrade the drive , do it, I don't think you'll be sorry.

Well newegg hasn't opened yet, but I doubt they would let me upgrade it, I mean they aren't one of those customizable sites, so they wouldn't do it for me, right?

After looking at the specs on this machine, I can't imagine that it would come with a 120 gig 5400rpm. I'ld be willing to bet it's a 7200, though I could be wrong.

Yeah I'm going to ask about it also, in 15 min. But I thought that as RPM increased, the GB was lower. That might just be for like 300 GB desktops though.

I don't think so. On my PC I have from 40 gig on up to 200 gig that are all 7200 rpm.

My laptop is 40 gig 7200 rpm

Examples:

Seagate / 100GB / 7200 / 8MB / 2.5" Mobile / Hard Drive

Hitachi / 7K100 / 60GB / 7200 / 8MB / 2.5" Mobile / Hard Drive

And on the other side of that:

Seagate / Momentus 5400.3 / 160GB / 5400 / 8MB / 2.5" Mobile / OEM / Hard Drive

Hitachi / Travelstar 5K100 / 100GB / 5400 / 8MB / 2.5" Mobile / Hard Drive

Just some info for you to work with.

Yeah ive heard problems with acer, when i worked at staples we had over
2/3's of acers returned. when buying a laptop i always recomend a HP or Toshiba. definatly near the top for quality while still in an affordable price range.
