Mexican Theme Park

I was coming home from Myrtle Beach yesterday, and missed my turn. I ended up at the border of North Carolina and found this place. I didn't have a camera to take pics, but found some on teh intrawebs.

And judging by what I've learned from Men In Black, the sombero at the top of the tower is really just a spaceship. Explains Mexican Invasion perfectly.

I must say I was slightly unsettled as I drove by it the two times I did.

I've driven past that place a few times before. It always looks like an abandoned theme park that's just sitting there rotting. I can't believe people would actually go there. I mean holy shit, it just flat out scares me!

If it's rotting and abandoned then it's culturally accurate.

Ahh! I drove by that shit last month driving down to Florida....I laughed quite joyfully at the thought of a Mexican theme park. My girlfriend's parents wouldn't take us though....I bet we would have had more fun there than Disney

I wanna know what their annual budget is on all of those highway billboards they put up. I haven't been down that way on I-95 in many years but when I was, there was at least 100 billboards.....

"You are only 300 miles from South of the Border"
"Kids, tell Mom and Dad, it's now only 250 miles until South of the Border"

And so on and so on. The last time I was there was on my way down to Florida for Spring Break back in 99' so I can't say with certainty that all of those billboards are still up.

I don't understand the reasoning behind that, but fine. Since we are on the subject of theme parks anyone heard of Action Park?

Taken from Wikipedia:

Quote:
Action Park was a popular waterpark/motor themed park open from 1978 to 1996 in Vernon Township, New Jersey, on the property of the former Vernon Valley / Great Gorge ski area, today Mountain Creek. It featured three separate attraction areas: an alpine slide; Motoworld, where patrons could operate motorized vehicles on land and water; and Waterworld, with many water-based attractions such as waterslides.

Its popularity went hand in hand with a reputation for poorly-designed, unsafe rides; inattentive, underaged, underpaid and sometimes under-the-influence employees[1]; equally intoxicated and underprepared visitors — and the poor safety record that followed from this perfect storm of circumstances. At least six people are known to have died as a result of mishaps on rides at the park, and it was nicknamed "Traction Park",[2] "Accident Park",[3] "Class Action Park", "Danger Park" and "Death Park" by doctors at nearby hospitals due to the number of severely injured parkgoers they treated. While little action was taken by state regulators despite a history of repeat violations, in its later years personal-injury lawsuits forced the closure of more and more rides and finally the park itself. The new owner of the ski area has reopened the water attractions as Mountain Creek Waterpark, with a vastly increased emphasis on ride safety.

This is a tarzan rope swing.. brilliant idea

Wonderful slide they had.. full 360 loop.. imagine it..

There are some wonderful testimonials to this theme park online.

Oh, I've been to Action Park and the new one that replaced it, lol. And that Tarzan Swing was so freaking cold compared to the other rides there ._.

south of the border....ahh, memories. We used to drive down that highway and take pictures of all the billboards. My favorite was a basketball one, but I only saw it once

I heard about that.. one man had a heart attack or something from the shock of the cold.

I still think that 360 loop is insane.
