I don't believe it either.
How would the Octopus camouflage its eye? Somebody was messing with special effects. |

Actually, i watched that exact footage on animal planet, and it DOES camouflage it's eyes. It changes its color by a chemical in the body that recognizes it's environment after the octopus has felt or made eye contact with the color. It's real.

Those who said this video was fake have definitely got to watch more Discovery channel, or perhaps they should have paid more attention in Biology. Either way, I'm dumbfounded that there are so many people who didn't know that Octopi do this.

No way that thing is real. Yes, they might be able to change color to blend into their environment, but bending light? The thing had the same texture as the rest of its environment. What? It knows what it will look like from afar? It can understand that some of it is supposed to be the color of the coral while other the color of water? I highly doubt it. I might be wrong, but I'm having problems buying this.

Haven't you guys ever heard of iguana's? (sp?) Well they're not the only animal that can camaflouge itself. I highly doubt that anyone is good enough at special effects to make it look that real.

Octopi are one of several creatures that can camoflauge themselves that way.
If you look carefully, the octopus did not change its TEXTURE, it changed it's color to LOOK like it changed it. I can't believe so many of you think it's fake. I've seen that video on several different Discovery and Animal Planet specials. Octopi are also extremely smart ceatures. In one of the specials, one learned how to use the roaches it was given as food as bait to catch crabs. |

Do some of these people say that every single video on Ebaums world is fake or what?
Why don't you guys do some research online before saying its fake? Here are some links I found in just a few minutes of using google: http://www.dal.ca/~ceph/TCP/Octopusvulgaris.html http://www.australiancephalopods.com/occy_defense.html http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ng...octopus34.html http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/canwaters-e...e.asp?Catid=15 Edit: I noticed something else cool about that octopus video. It leaves ink behind as it swims off to try and distract the "predator" who is holding the camera. Last edited by gooachooyumyum; 04-10-2005 at 02:38 AM.. |
