I think I get it. Was the guy on coffee break actually the devil/death? He appeared at 3 people's deaths, just standing there. He then decides not to wait for people to die, but just to kill them himself?

He seemed to be changing into the people's clothes once they died, trying to take their identities. But before, he'd wait for them to die. The express checkout gave him the idea that he can take those roles on (steal their clothes) by just killing them. He didn't have to wait anymore.

He's not the devil or anything, just a psycho schizo who actually wants to take on the roles of others. That's my take on it at least.

Creepy tho.
