The US had proximity fuses in their anti-aircraft shells. That's one of the biggest reasons they were able to crush the Japs.
There's no way the Japs could pose a serious threat after those were in play. MAYBE if they never got proximity fuses, the Japs would be able to do what you suggest.
I wonder why we never hear about the German anti-aircraft artillery. They must've had proximity fuses? I thought they were pretty capable in shooting down Allied planes.
At least the Japs knew how to make war unlike the worthless Italians. Seriously, the Italians were the most inept military force in history almost.
