My favorite story of this kind was the CEO of a small company who used to like to give aptitude tests to prospective employees. The first section was vocabulary and when confronted with having to define the words, 'comprehensive', 'sanguine' and 'optical' responded, "Nobody knows what those words mean". When it was pointed out to him that somebody must know because they are in the dictionary his response was unshakable. "They probably had to look them up".
